I think our loyal reader may want the same clip to play at many different points in the timeline, but not in regular succession in the manner of a loop. If the clip looped, but beany wanted a gap between one playback instance and another, he’d have to split the layer, and creating extra layers is what beany’s trying to avoid.

    I could be wrong … 🙂

That seems to be an NVidia file … found by Googling “NVTcp.sys”.

So: you need new drivers for your graphics card, you need to switch off OpenGL in AE, you need to tweak your graphics card prefs (in its control panel?) or you need a new graphics card.

    Anybody else?

Video editing apps allow you to place more than one clip on a layer. However, AE, being at its root a compositing app, thinks more “vertical” rather than “horizontal”. As a result we have “one clip, one layer”.

If you want, you could apply time remapping to the clip. That will give you two keyframes: start and end. If you copy those keyframes then paste them somewhere else on the same layer, the same clip will start and play again. You see? So every time the clip plays, you see the start and end keyframe.

    Does that make sense?

If you see those icons outside of AE, that sounds like an OS thing, no?

Where do you see the icons? Outside of AE or in the AE Project window?

Use AE CS3’s puppet tool, or maybe the distort>liquify tool. Otherwise you might want to cut it up into layers in Photoshop, then import the PSD as layers, move the layers’ anchor points and go from there.

    Ah, yes — sorry.

Did you Google “blowback guns” or “airsoft”? I just did, and found a few sites.

Search the COW for “muzzle”, and also look for detonationfilms.com.

Nowadays, the actors are often shot on bluescreen, a la Sky Captain or Sin City. Alternately, some of the foreground objects may be CG — no roto required. Or they roto. It depends on the objects.
