I got video going with mp4, but the delay on the stream is quite high (we think due to the encoding). I’m wondering if there are cameras that will encode for us that we can stream out with vlc directly (native MPEG TS container stream straight to ethernet)

It’s probably the case that it was unmounted properly at one time and an older directory exists in there with the old name. Apple will automagically rename the mount point by sticking a “1” on the end of it in that case. (I’ve been caught by this before).
Unmount everything and check in /Volumes for the old mount point. Maybe do a check permissions too in case anything was left in a bad state.

I can’t guarantee you won’t see any problems, but we’ve gotten very few problem reports from customers. My subjective sense is that 10.6 (at least at the current level) is more robust than 10.5.

I think we’re going to be streaming with VLC for android. I have to go build it cause it’s not released yet.
I’m going to use streamclip for now and cross my fingers.They are going to tweak my radio network to get my bandwidth up. I think I’ll have 100KB/sec now (that’s Bytes!). Of course, now they want two way video chat too 🙂

The sense of this is backwards. The cards “creates” a PCIE 4X slot. It wouldn’t sit in one. It is a 4X slot (in the form of a plug). I don’t know what the back end is (perhaps it bolts onto the northbridge directly).

I’m pretty sure this is essentially PCIE 4X coming out in a port. So you can imagine ditching your expresscard/34 slot and connecting stuff with this. (but in a cabled fashion that you can daisy chain).
The PCIE protocol has always been a switched protocol.

It’s PCI Express protocol. It’s switchable.
I imagine we could see PCIE switches that use lightpeak. There are PCIE switches now, but they don’t get used much. I think we’ll see expander like devices.Steve Modica

Small Tree sells NAS solutions that will be less expensive than any of the san stuff you’ve purchased or are considering. Plus, we know a lot more about storage than most of those guys. We have our own FCoE driver that runs on our 10Gb cards as well as having written an entire FCoE storage stack for a large vendor. We know this stuff pretty well.
NAS works better, it’s easier to manage and scale, and it’s more robust.
