[Oliver Peters] “Mine’s much simpler than Joe’s. Simple timeline of selects. Pulling clips from 20 or more 30min. TV shows. ProRes masters with stereo tracks. Just fast JKL of the source (or skimming), then I and O and append edit. Simple, but in very rapid succession. At some point in this process, FCPX simply stops updating the filmstrip image and then locks. Hard.

That’s a deeper system problem, surely? I do this sort of fast selects all the time with no issues?

[Oliver Peters] “Say what you will about Premiere Pro, but I just never have the same sort of bad experience.

and of course you know people like me will then post that we have almost zero problems with FCPX reliability, even when pushing hard and the unreliability of PPro seems to reported a lot.

As with any system have you tried narrowing down exactly what’s causing it to crash, what exactly do you mean by “pushing hard”? have you spoken to Apple about it? Have you done re-installs etc etc.

Also your first statement reads like it’s a broad problem

[Oliver Peters] “Why is that that when you are really pushing an app hard, the ProApps software like Final Cut Pro X crashes more often than any other post software? “

Perhaps you should have said “When I’M really pushing an app hard”?

Had a quick play with the new ‘Match” tool – very impressive!

[Bill Davis] “Also trying to keep this widely viewed Cow board popular helps the Cow brand overall.

“Widely viewed”? doesn’t seem very long since you were saying how sad you were that this place wasn’t as active as all the other FCPX forums 🙂

I think at this stage in the life of FCPX we shouldn’t have to trumpet every single broadcast show or Movie that actually uses it! However, what I do like hearing about is actual workflow details from these projects which is sadly missing in this piece

March 31, 2018 at 8:42 pm in reply to: eGPU support in OSX 10.13.4

[greg janza] “Bottom line is that Apple is limiting access not to account info but instead to the best component technology available in the marketplace and I would think that that would be a deal breaker for those looking to create the best possible computer systems for professional use.

But they ARE doing a great job of optimising FCPX for ATi cards and if you’re an FCPX user then that’s a great thing. Resolve also seems to be working well with ATi cards as well, so it’s not a deal breaker for people like me who want to stay on the Mac platform.

If I was working in 3D or using only Premiere Pro then I might think differently as they both benefit much more from faster GPU cards

It would be interesting to find out exactly why Apple doesn’t work with Nvidia, is it financial, is it a problem with reliable integration into OSX or could it be the Nvidia don’t want to work with Apple? It certainly looks like there will be no Nvidia options in the new Mac Pro

March 23, 2018 at 8:10 am in reply to: Adobe Rent Price Increase

[greg janza] “There seems to be a fair amount of amnesia here with people forgetting that NLE software used to cost real money. Today even the Adobe CC subscription is a nominal business expense.

But it’s also a great “stick” for FCPX evangelists to beat Adobe with as well 🙂

[Bill Davis] “Hey, you guys want to drip $600 a year away in monthly installments, nobody’s going to stop you.

With the tax break it’s easily paid for in 6 billable hours a year, wouldn’t call that “dripping away”, as I said the cost is inconsequential

Good for you if you don’t get any work that needs Adobe Products though
