Any of them would be fine for what you are doing. Of course the Quad would be better…the fastest is ALWAYS better. But even the low end G5 will suit you fine for the formats you will be working in.
Working on a Mac MINI? Well, this will be a world of difference.

How about exporting with the ANIMATION codec? That really is the best one. Or download the Avid codecs (20:1, 1;1) and then you can output directly to them from AE.

You need to export a Quicktime Movie…SELF CONTAINED…not a ref movie. If you export a reference movie, it “references” all the media and render files. If they are gone, it won’t work. However, if you export a self contained QT movie, it makes a movie with all the footage in it…self contained.
Then you just toss the Renders folder, the Capture Scratch, Audio Renders…whathaveyou.
Back up all your graphics, music and SFX though…

All you really need to backup are your project file, any music, sound effects and graphics or pictures that were used in your project. The media…the captured material…needn’t be backed up. As long as you have the source tapes and the project file, all you need to do is recapture the material by batch capturing.

Dang it Walter…you are right. 23.98 but the timeline settings are only Non-Drop frame. I really have to ask the post house that does this all the time what they do. I think they dropped it into a 29.97 timeline just to see where they are.
That is a horrible way of going about it, IMHO. I will be checking further, and await your results too Walter.
Interestingly enough, I did have a few DVCPRO HD clips that were 720p30, yet ran at 29.97. I don’t know why they were formatted like that, as I captured them with several other clips on the same tape that were all 59.94fps. And I used an Easy Setup too. Odd. But, the 29.97 clips were able to go into a drop frame timeline.

FREE? A few…but c’mon…someone worked hard on these and you want them for free? You worked long nad hard on your corporate piece, would you give it up for free?

Those are DV Stream files. DV Stream files don’t have timecode…but since they aren’t from a tape, they really don’t need TC, do they?
You need to convert them to DV/NTSC or some uncompressed format your capture card (if you have one) will work with.

FCP cannot import OMFs. The whole point is to export the OMF to ProTools and they either supply you with a stereo mixed .aiff file, or they layback the final mix to the onlined master.

1) Set a limit on Capture Now. Never have that box unchecked. Set it to 60 min if you want the whole tape.
2) Do not under any circumstances run any anti-virus/filesaver software. Including Norton and Virex. Sure, Apple doles out Virex for free, but FCP doesn’t cooperate with it very well.
If you absolutely feel you must keep Virex installed on your system then use Kevin’s script to shut it off before you use FCP:

4) Check the format of the drive you are capturing to. It should be Mas OS Extended, jornalling off. If it isn’t, copy your files from it and re-initialize it. If it is any other format, you will encounter problems. If not at first, then eventually.
