[Eric Santiago] “With Premiere and FCPX pricing and 4 to 1 project ratio, Its been getting harder to convince corp on the yearly fee.”
But…Premiere Pro IS a subscription. It’s the first NLE to do it. So to use that as an example against Avid’s upcoming subscription pricing seems a tad odd.
What is a 4 to 1 project ratio?

[Andre van Berlo] “So now I wonder, could I connect my Mac Pro 2013 to a new machine and will that new machine be able to utilize the D700’s and CPU in my nMP?”
Only if you connect via Ethernet, and network the computers together. And ONLY Compressor would be able to take advantage of this.
[Andre van Berlo] “And would FCPX be able to utilize the GPU’s in my nMP as well if the machine is connected via TB2 or ethernet?”
Nope.

June 17, 2019 at 6:24 pm in reply to: Avid Media Composer License – use with different account?[Anja Seffer] “I got an Avid Media Composer liscense by my producer that he bought through his Avid account. Can I use this lisence through my own account?”
No, you’ll have to sign in to his account, and then input the license there to activate and use the license they bought.
[Anja Seffer] “Atm, the activation through the Avid app on my computer (WIN10) fails cause the liscence apparently hasn’t been deactivated on the other computer yet (“101 activation failed, seat count failed system ID: ….”).”
They they need to deactivate it on their end, before you can activate it on yours. You can’t use one license on two computers simultaneously.
[Anja Seffer] ”
However, when I try to add this lisence to my myavid-account, it fails, too. Same reason? Error code here is “the code you provided is invalid.””The license is tied to HIS account. You’ll need to log in to HIS account, and then activate the license.

June 17, 2019 at 6:04 am in reply to: Using AVID for it’s Fluid Morph but with colourspace problemsYou shouldn’t be doing this with Proxy footage. When you export out of Avid, you lose all metadata linking the proxies to the master footage. If you do this, it needs to be to high res files.

Yes…CONNECTORS. For the drive, but again, no power. And no, no slots. Only TWO drive slots for M2 SSD drives. Weaksauce. What’s wrong with allowing for 4 internal drives? Sure, we can keep things compact by allowing the 2.5″ SSD drives, but I’d love that. My MacPro 2008…those 4 drive bays. My Hackintosh…3 full sized SATA drive slots, and two 2.5″ slots on the other side (well, MOUNTS). VERY handy having multiple internal hard drives.
FOr some reason Apple doesn’t think anyone wants that. That we all want external drives for everything! Oh, here, they’ll playcate us by giving us ONE extra slot. Good, no?
Current rig has Two 500GB SSDs, and three 3TB SATA drives. LOTS of room for my sound effects library, stock footage library, room for the smaller projects.

[Oliver Peters] “I presume these were wrapped as .mov and not .avi (since it was a Windows user). I’d bet .mov.”
Yes, MOV files in the ANIMATION codec. But when he got info for it, it said QUICKTIME RLE format…which googling got me to ANIMATION.
[Oliver Peters] “Have you or this person tried to bringing the files into Media Composer or any Adobe application?”
That’s why he posted (on a facebook group). He couldn’t import the files into Avid…nor open them in QT. VLC played them, but Avid wouldn’t import…nor link. And it happened after an update on the WIndows 10 system. It worked before, then didn’t.

[Oliver Peters] “Get a professional player tool if needed, like Switch. Don’t rely on QT.”
It’s not a player that’s needed. The Animation codec and others that had support dropped will play in VLC player. It’s being able to WORK with these formats. So either some way to re-wrap them in a supported container, or a converter that can read them and convert them.
