Which is really unfortunate. Even though apple seems to prefer ATI, the quadro adds a LOT of processing power.

My question is why no high end nVidia option? A quadro fx 5800 w/ sdi would have been a HUGE advantage.

Steven, if you are shooting with an EX3, are you using the footage from the cards? If so, just edit in native xdcam ex. You’re not making any new information by converting to uncompressed. If you want really great results, use your ioHD to capture the SDI out to ProRes 422 directly into final cut.

Not every crt monitor provides the ability to adjust the functions that determine the sharpness of the image, including convergence, etc. I think he was implying that some iki tubes can drift out, and not be able to be trimmed back.

The connector choice is somewhat irrelevant. It happens to be that anything that sends SDI uses a BNC connection (unless it’s a RED), while component devices use either, depending on the price level. I think what Bob was referring to is that the iki may not be able to display an HD signal output by the BM card, because it was never intended to.

Sounds to me like a bit depth conversion problem, I’d say try converting the footage to the BM RGB 10 bit codec and see if it goes away. Also, check and make sure your FW is up to date in the card by downloading the latest installer from the BM website. The EIZO works very well, especially with the HDLINK pro for monitoring LOG footage on set, although it does still suffer from off angle black lift like many other LCD’s.

I use an eizo CG241 via DVI, or SDI with an HDLink Pro box for most of my work, although sometimes I use a Panasonic TH-50PF9UK plasma. When you say that you simulated the appearance, how exactly did you do that?

RCA-BNC cables are readily available, but if you can’t find them the adapters work great.

Are you playing back in Dynamic quality? That doesn’t look like anything I’ve ever seen a BM card cause. Having it appear on a still frame while stepping and then correct itself also sounds like a dynamic (or adaptive in AE) problem.

Short answer, no. What you’re getting through firewire is everything that’s on the tape. Playing out to a decklink card is effectively going to capture the same information in a larger container. The only reason to do that is if your NLE doesn’t support HDV.
