I feel your pain brother.
“Fix it in post” is a real time waster. Hope you get this resolved in the future.You might want to load up the master in the camera and play it back. Most camera’s have menu settings that can show info like exposure, iris, gain etc. in the VF. You might have to go into the preferences to bring this up.

Do you mean Apple, as in Apple Store?
Well, if you do, that’s your problem right there.
I wouldn’t recomend taking anything but in warranty hardware problems to Apple.
A lot of these Apple Store Genius Bar (lmao) guys worked at Abercrombie and Fitch last week, and Best Buy the week before that. These guys may know a lot about iPod’s, and occasional there may be a hacker in the crowd, but I have yet to run into any FCP Genius types at Apple stores.Or

By settings do you mean Pro Apps Preference files?
Why would you want to copy those from an old system?
FCP, Motion etc. preferences aren’t that hard to set, I would start fresh.
This is why when you posted about all the KP’s you were having everyone said to do a clean install, preferably on a new HD.
When people are talking about a “Clean Install” that is what they meant.
Clean, as in nothing else on the drive, as in new or freshly formatted.
You said your LT was ‘Updated’ so that means not a clean install.
Do you not get that pulling stuff from a LT that had an update (bad idea) and moving that to your system defeats the whole purpose of the clean install? Preferences from the LT are corrupt, so now lets move them to another machine.Format the drive. Install the OS. Then install Pro Apps. Then due an update. Then re-install your plugins. Download any new drivers you may need. Then you can copy your other apps and data from your backup drive to your system.
Do Not Copy Preferences From A Machine that Didn’t Have A Clean Install!
This may not be as easy as just updating, but if you want easy, you may want to look at Final Cut Express.SL came out in August. You could have saved yourself a lot of grief if you would either search topics like FCS3 or Snow Leopard, or just read the posts from August 29th thru September 20th or so. There is a ton of info on this subject, and the correct steps, and horror stories from those that decided to take shortcuts.

He said he was shooting on a different shutter speed because of the lighting. He doesn’t use an iris or aperture, he uses the shutter.

What? Completely unacceptable! Plus it sounds like you have had this problem before.
Not sure what the client/cam op/you relationship is, but if the shutter is being used in a way that compromises the look of the material or adds time (and cost) to post you need to bring it to the attention of the producer or person that pays the bills.
If the shooter wants to cut the DOF he should invest in a set of ND filters instead of using the shutter, unless the ‘shutter look’ is something client wants. You can also (in most cams) create alternate paint settings, and store them on a card. It’s pretty easy to create a -3db (1 stop) or more sensitivity reduction set up, which would allow a bigger f-stop.And cant tell us what speed it was because it changed from one lighting condition to another.
Fired. No excuse for that. Non-standard shutter speed should be noted and/or slated. I would ask the producer why they keep hiring this guy.

BTW my other post I was assuming you meant ‘how do you use’ or ‘is that really a dissolve’, which I may have read completely wrong.
In a literal way, to do a 1 frame dissolve, you just need to set the FX duration for 1, but this would be in FCP, not Motion, as this thread might be OT in the Motion forum. -
A 1 frame dissolve gives one frame that is a 50-50 overlap between the two adjoining shots. It is most often used to soften the look of a cut edit, when it just needs ‘a little something’ to make the cut look smoother, while still retaining the look of a cut.
Sure, not a dissolve in the traditional sense, but just another tool in the bag.
Check out the opening montage’ of the MGM film ‘Grand Prix’ sometime. There are a lot of these ‘soft cuts’ in there.
You can also use these to simulate a camera flash in a shot. Do a cut to a solid frame of white, then a 1 frame (or 2) dissolve back to the original shot. Add a camera or flash S/FX to help sell it, works great.
As a transition between two different shots you can go for 5 or so frame dissolve. -

One thing that comes to mind is anything that can be found in the manual. Also things like where is ‘this’ or ‘that’ function, filter, etc.
Second thing that makes it basic, is simply the common opinion of several (TBD) forum users, or one administrator, based on their experience. I don’t think a black and white definition is really needed, since we are only talking about moving a post, not deleting it.

Yes, lets try this!
Probably 3-5 ‘moves’ would be plenty, it’s not like they are getting flagged for deletion. These posts shouldn’t sit there waiting forever to move to the proper forum. The quicker they get moved, the quicker they may get an answer to their question. Lets not make them wait.
Also in an effort to make this work, lets all try and patrol the Basic Forum more often. One of the new guys in the ‘bloated’ thread said the other forums lacked activity, and posts go unanswered, which is why he gave up on the Basic Forum. -
The Audio Filters in FCP contain both a Reverb and an Echo, no need to use STP or PT if your not up to speed on them. Used keyframing to add the filter at your desired location in the timeline.

I meant you can have a 1 frame dissolve. AKA the ‘Soft Cut’.
