Are you referring to this as a true/false field?

  • Michael,

    I thought I was the only one…

The way compressor and quicktime in general does not channel map is a huge let down. Experiment with setting the channels in quicktime properties before you encode.

Episode is the only app to really do this properly but it is far too expensive for the heavy lifting that we need. Apple have stopped making pro apps and I don’t think compressor was ever really ‘finished’.

Did you ever find a way to automate?

May 20, 2013 at 8:36 am in reply to: Sony PMW-200 Audio Channels 3 & 4 TURN OFF!

Glad I am not the only one… There are plenty of things wrong with the design.. Placing the dc port in the battery compartment being one of my major gripes. Sony know what they are doing. They have been building great cameras for many years which brings you to the only conclusion that is they do these ‘design flaws’ on purpose. It’s simply to make the larger shoulder mount cameras more desirable.

The days of the large shoulder ENG are over in my line of work. Most of the places I go are ‘war zone / conflict areas’ and I very rarely declare that I have a camera. Sony made a great ‘small’ camera once called the Z7. I too hated the hdv codec but this camera was exceptional in it’s design.

It had a ND fliter turn wheel (Clear, 1/4, 1/16, 1/64) and a digital spirit level that you could display in the LCD. Shooting wide from the hip I was astonished at the help this spirit level gave to shooting in this style. When I thought I was level I was wrong and the spirit was correct (very hard at arms length, sun beating down on the LCD, shooting wide angle etc). The spirit level made many more shots useable. The fact that this is not on every video camera produced simply amazes me. I know plenty of camera men who physically glue a spirit to their viewfinder.. Madness

It’s probably as important as peaking and would cost them nothing to implement. The Zeiss lens on this cameras was also fantastic..

The pictures from the pmw-200 are excellent though. Very clean. I hated the ex1 / 3 images but the 50mb 422 gets you into the sweet spot…

Roll on 1080 50p already. It’s like the chicken and the egg with this business. Sony, I will give you a hint, the broadcasters are ready to go this route, EBU are ready, BBC can’t wait! They are all relying on you to produce a bloody camera to shoot it! Then it’s good bye to interlaced for good. Finally! It’s over! There will be parties in the streets and finally we can say we are in the HD era..

    (ok rant over)

May 16, 2013 at 10:39 pm in reply to: Point to proxy CatDV didn’t create

I am trying to work out a way of using the worker to place the externally created proxies (episode and compressor etc) into their correct folders in the proxy path mapping.

I can get the files sent to the external encoders but I am having difficulty getting the worker to pick them back up and place them in the relevant proxy folders.

    Any assistance is appreciated.

I can edit them and delete fields but they will not publish which makes sense. I guess the only way to enable the users to not be inclined to try and edit them is to edit that groups preferences for all the fields to be locked?

May 15, 2013 at 9:26 am in reply to: GUI issue

This is the correct slate look:

Click on another clip and parts of the GUI becomes a lighter grey.

I have not performed an exhausted trial and error but it seems to happen when a HDV clip is selected.

    Any ideas?

May 10, 2013 at 5:55 pm in reply to: Deleting ‘remembered values’

We have exactly this. Two field sets and two production groups. Loading a group loads that groups field set as it is part of the groups preferences.

Only way to solve this issue so far was to log into the other group and delete the value from that user field pick list. Then log into the other group and finally remember value does not bring it back. Some kind of conflict..

Yes linked hierarchy works for some.

Hi Matthew, so you have also noticed this issue?

I have never ticked ‘auto populate from server’.

Doing further tests it appears that it was a conflict from another production group which uses different user fields. This is an issue that I feel people need to be aware of, ie keep the user fields the same across the board if you have more than one production group.
