I prefer the standalone Soundsoap to the plug in, for whatever its worth, although you end up having to export whatever chunk of audio you want to work on out of FCP and then re-import which is a pain. Good luck!

Maybe try knocking the background noise out with a program called SoundSoap? It will learn your room noise + pull the frequencies + has some sort of built-in preset that can preserve the human voice. Good luck!

  • One more thing — I’d want to work off of a 500GB external so I basically would be aiming to take my new clips down to 1/30th of their original size. ! Is there some sort of simple way to approximate what the final export size will be beyond plain old trial and error and/or advice as to the type of compression I should use for optimal results?

    Thanks again!

  • Ha. Thanks so much for the various tips. I was praying for some overarching “off” switch for one of the tracks that could preempt any type of previewing or dragging to timeline. Popping the audio mixer is helpful though and makes for a quick mute option before my eardrums start bleeding.

Green orbs! My official term was dingledoodads.
