Yep, probably a subwoofer. Or they just put the trash can there to hide the cables for the photo (-: Ah well, only a few weeks to go for the Tube and I had heard some studios already had a chance to test one, so it could have been possible… On with the work now.

What happens if you set the Project frame rate to 29.97 and you drop the video onto the Project timeline?

If your video was shot in 60i your Project frame rate will have to be 29.97
If FCPCX does not recognize the format of your video when you drop it onto your Project timeline (as you have mentioned on the other forum) there may be something wrong with your ProRes file. The external app you are using is not really a highly recommended video converter for MTS files.
Why don’t you just import your footage in FCPX instead of converting it with an external application? Just connect your camera to your computer, launch FCPX and open the Import window. Your camera should appear in the Device list, select it and import the footage. If you want you always can optimize your imported media to ProRes while importing, or you can import the footage first and the convert the imported files to ProRes from within the Event browser. Couldn’t be easier.

If you have shot in 60i your project frame rate definitely needs to be 29.97 and NOT 23.98. That’s to start with, and that would certainly explain why your video requires rendering on the project timeline.
But if FCPX opens the Project settings window when you drop your ProRes video onto the Project timeline this means your video is not recognized as a standard video format and there could be something wrong with it. So it would be helpful if you could give us more information about this ProRes file. The easiest way of doing this is to open it in QT player, press CMD+i to open the Info window and post a screenshot of this window. Then we can probably see why FCPX does not recognize the settings of this file.

This forum may have had its use in the first days of FCPX, but these days are over. FCPX seems to be considered a a strong NLE by a lot of people, whether you like it or not. In the real world the real debate is over, I guess that’s why lately on this forum you see more and more purely subjective like/dislike opinions, sometimes leading to name-calling and insults frome one side as well as from the other, and only little real discussion anymore.
I have questioned the intentions of this forum name from day 1. There are people who dislike Avid, people who dislike Premier, and everyone has his own valid reasons of that, so why only have an Or Not forum about FCPX? FCPX has been working really well for our post house, that’s why I love it just like I love Avid and very frankly I don’t really care if someone else doesn’t. So why even have such forums at all…
That’s why I suggest to create a new forum: the “Apple FCPX or Not: The Debate forum… or Not” (-:

The first “article” was written by someone who admits he has hardly ever used FCPX, yet he is bashing it in the most childish way. The second one is written by someone who has actually used it and he gives his professional opinion based on hands-on experience. I would hardly call this a debate.

These GPU’s do seem different, as you cannot find them anywhere on the AMD charts (unless I’m missing something.)
Cannot find the link now, but some guy tried to find the same components as the new MacPro for a hack and he couldn’t find an equivalent motherboard nor the GPUs. So he took the closest PC parts he could find based on the specs and came up with a price that was about 3/4 of the original, without Thunderbolt connection and in an utterly ugly box. Even at half the price, when you add the time you spend building and testing such a thing, I think it is absolutely not worth it. Of course it all depends how much you value your time.

Correct, Charlie. When you insert a clip at the start of the timeline the cops on the “track” are pushed backwards. So no, no real independent track.
