I suspect the following formula is in order in these circumstances:
1. Train them.
2. Put yourself out of work before someone else does.
3. Bill them.
4. Cash the check.
5. Look for other work.
Others may have additional steps but I think points 1 – 5 cover the basics.

If you sold and manage the project, then by all means, feel free to answer questions and play mediator. But if you didn’t sell the job and you are not the person running it, then I would stay the heck out of it. You are like the friend who knows that someone’s spouse is cheating on them. Do you tell them? Only if you want to destroy the friendship.
There is nothing to be gained in this situation. I would just “zip the lip” and stay the heck out of the politics. You will lose if you take either side in this one.
I wouldn’t venture a word of advice to either party. It has clearly already gotten too far out of control and you cannot win in this situation.
Just do your job. Collect your money. Let the two of them continue the machinations until they come to some kind of workable equilibrium…or not.
You won’t get them there, don’t make it your responsibility or you will assuredly be the loser in this one — to both parties.

That, and the fact that when people responded, he (Charles Williams) also defended the site and program by trying to point to another site where users gushed effusively about what a great program it is.
These two things combined, to quote the Bard in Hamlet, make me think that there is indeed “something rotten in the state of Denmark.”

Charles, if the people on that forum think your work is worth signing up for,they are so easily pleased that their work would place them in utter amateur status. It is clearly junk.

Why not upload it here at the COW in our video-reels section and use the embed code and just paste the embed code and feed it from here.
Our limit is now 200MB and we have no bandwidth limit. If your video was to be seen 100,000 times in a month, we wouldn’t care.

Always shoot for new and higher levels of accomplish, Mary. That is a good thing to do to excel in your career over the years. But as you learned in this exchange, just don’t shoot so far out to sea that you can’t swim back to shore if you need to. ;o)

Yes, the new COW is in development and should be quite a vast improvement when it is fully implemented by Q3-2010.
During much of 2009, we began working on the “mental process” of completely redefining not only the interface but the very concept of what it means to be a community site in the days ahead. We threw out all of the past dogmas of what it means to be a forums community, and we focused instead on identifying and redefining the very way that people work and interact within online communities. We defined and refined the interface based on what you do and how you work.
What has come out of all of it, is a master plan for a restructuring of the COW that will move you from question to answer in the shortest number of steps and with a great reduction in the numbers of page hops it takes to find the answer. But that is just one item in the whole thing. There is much much more.
We are looking at Q3-2010 as the time when it will all likely be live. Bits and pieces are being added to the existing interface, little niceties that were born out of the work we are doing on the new interface. (One LITTLE item is the new search item that offers the most common searches when you begin to use the search. For an example of this, go to the search function and begin to type in the word ”Panasonic”, for example — see what happens. It is just a small item but there are many of these things we are adding.)
I suspect that I will be growing increasingly quiet in the days ahead — [insert foley sounds of audience roaring its approval] — as I focus more and more on working with our team on these new additions. It is a lot of work, because as I said in the COW Magazine Back 40 column, this overhaul requires major changes in every part of the Creative COW system.
We are testing many ideas, and many have already been approved, but many others are in the development stages. This is no small undertaking but when the year closes on 2010, we will have built a COW that is udderly (sorry, I couldn’t help it) unlike any community interface we have seen anywhere on the net.
