Number one is that 720p is not interlaced, it’s 720p not 720i.

Not sure what I said that would make you think I don’t understand that. Was stating that I expected the LH to be able to convert progressive to interlaced on the fly.

Number two is that the LH only supports editing codecs, not web codecs. If you convert your 720p24 movie to something that the Kona can understand (such as ProRes or DVCPro HD or Uncompressed), you will be able to play out video from the Kona. It will add pulldown to 720p24 material to make it 720p60.

That’s what I thought except I was not sure about the codec. I did a test to DVCPRO HD and it flickers on the monitor but I did not change the output setting on the Kona. Started a convert to ProRes so I will see what I get with that.

Also, is your monitor an SD only monitor?

Nope, Does 1080i at various rates including 24pfs. Ya know Sony likes the 1080i and the 1080p version is many more thousands.

    Thanks Much,
    Robert:-)

    Thanks,

So from FCP 6.04 the LH cannot convert 720/24p to an interlaced signal like 720/60i? Seems like it should be able to do that.

Otherwise, would you suggest in the future working 60i and then convert on output?

    I appreciate your help,
    Robert:-)

[Jeremy Garchow] “Which makes me think something’s wrong with the input. If you don’t get anything on the analog outs, we’ll know. “

Wellll, I tried the AES again and I do get audio. Problem is that the level is miniscule compared to the level I get from FCP. I can only get enough level by boosting the trim, input, and output levels on the MOTU Ultralite that I am using as a mixer. Again, I get plenty of level from FCP using the same output chain. I have the level all the way up on the source and using the +18 setting in the Kona ControlPanel. Also using “Lock input gain to unity”, although that does not seem to affect the level. Not that it matters, but I have the Ultralite set to 48K. Any other controls I might be missing?

    Thanks,

    No prob on the woops.

I will recheck the analog outs. Due to my setup, I would prefer the AES out. Kona TV and FCP will play through the AES.

[Jeremy Garchow] “Are the audio meters bouncing on the front of the io?

Kona LH, no meters. The audio interface it feeds has meters and they are flatlined.

[Jeremy Garchow] “By AES, you mean the BNC’s correct?”

No, I mean the XLR that says AES out.

[Jeremy Garchow] “For the input, have you selected analog audio or are you on embedded?

Yes, I have selected analog for the audio input.

    Thanks,
    Robert:-)

  • [Dylan Reeve] “On a 16:9 device (projector, widescreen TV, etc) it will look nice and wide.”

Really? Wouldn’t that be assuming a playback device that understands anamorphic like DVD players do? What he probably will get on playback is 4:3 squeezed inside of a 16:9 frame, right? Do most DV decks understand anamorphic? Maybe later I will try my DSR-11 as a test.

[Bob Zelin] “Sony makes nice monitors too. “

Any idea how the SD looks on the BVMA14F5U or other Sony HD broadcast monitors? Does the unit physically switch between SD and HD circuitry? As you know, SD looks somewhat ragged on consumer HD equipment, even my XBR CRT.

    Thanks,

I’m also looking for Blue Ray burner for MAc Pro and FCStudio2, but no luck so far…

Hardware or software? The Panasonic SW-5582 works in my G5 not sure if the door works with it on the Mac Pro. OWC at macsales.com can probably tell you. For authoring using an Intel Mac, you can use Encore CS3 which is part of Adobe Premier Pro CS3.

    Have some fun,

January 19, 2008 at 2:48 am in reply to: DVD Pro Authoring for BD

Reading so much about which authoring system to use for authoring Blue Ray DVDs, I’m wondering why not DVD Pro, which is supposed to do it. Couldn’t I author it with DVD Pro and then burn it with Toast Platinum

Nope, DVDSP will NOT author Blu-Ray. It will author HD-DVD. For an Intel Mac you probably want Encore CS3 which is part of Adobe Premier Pro CS3. It is no longer sold separately. If like me you are on a G5, you are out of luck. There is NO authoring solution for PowerPC Macs that I can find. Toast 7 & 8 can burn Blu-Ray data discs and I am using it for that.

By the way, the Panasonic SW-5582 works well in my G5. I bought it from OWC at macsales.com.

    Good Luck,
    Robert

Netblender will only do BD-J. Even though it will have a GUI, I doubt anyone without Java experience will able to author with it out of the box.

Why not put basic authoring capability in it?
