Thanks for that – progressive cameras were not so available when the thing was shot. It was in early 2005 on a Sony 750 HDcam which I think can only do interlaced (could be wrong – I think you only got progressive on the 900, which was not available to the production). Big mistake not to shoot 24 though, bad advice from lazy post facilities used to working in PAL!

My system should cope with HD prores no bother, right?

The post guys I use don’t have access to ProRes, it’s Avid only. Is there an FCP compatible Avid-available codec which they could use to capture directly from HDCam onto a FW800 disk? (If it’s too meaty a data rate to work on a FW800 disk then it’ll be too meaty for my system)

Wouldn’t it be simpler to dub from HDCam to HDV then capture that into ProRes? Would there be appreciable horrible quality loss?

O really? So I can have a dual desktop PLUS a monitor or tape output via the SDI out?

Well thanks for a healthy and compendious array of responses !

I luckily have a boring old MBP with an ATI card running Tiger so I don’t think I’ll have any problem. I think the MXO is the product for me. No doubt there will be times when I need the odd bit of digitizing from tape (from archive footage, esp), but I can always get that stuff into the system somehow, even via firewire or by using a camera as a deck or whatever. A hassle but for the amount of times I think it will affect me, not 2500 bucks worth of hassle.

    What a pity I don’t have 2 x DVI ports…
