Hi Floh, thanks for the reply. I’m interested in this stuff because of high price/performance reasons. I have no requirement to send or receive files to anybody in any format. I’m only interested in creating my own DVD and online files.
I’m using the Media 100 to digitize analog sources. If I can get any higher quality by using something else, I’d consider it. But it looks like just using an old v8.2.3a system will probably have to do. It’s a cheap solution. It would seem that by using the Sheervideo codecs, I could work with smaller files though.

Sorry, but I’m not following you on this at all. Let’s say for the sake of simplicity, that I’m only using the Media 100 to acquire footage from say, a Betacam SP deck. If there’s some way to use the Sheervideo codec while doing this, and the resulting digitized footage is usable in say, Final Cut Pro or DVD Studio Pro, then I would do that instead of using the Media 100 codec. I don’t need to use the Media 100 after I have the footage digitized. If there’s no way to do this, then what hardware should I use with the Sheervideo stuff, to replace the Media 100 as a capture device?

I hope it can keep up with digitizing in uncompressed mode, and work with the external drives. I want it to be relatively cool and quiet. It’s worth a try anyway.

June 10, 2009 at 8:51 pm in reply to: Somebody here must have a favorite Mac for an 8.2.3a systemThanks again for the replies! I’m thinking of getting some Quicksilver Mac. I just haven’t decided on which one yet. Maybe someone has done this, even using external SATA drives. I keep hoping that somebody replies to that effect.

Thanks very much for the reply. But speed isn’t a big deal in this instance. I was running my old one on a mirror door G4 (dual 1G). But I’d like to have a quieter machine that runs much cooler. If the performance for doing things like digitizing footage, and cuts/dissolves-only editing would be ok, I’d be perfectly happy with another G4, like a Quicksilver. I will probably move the digitized footage to a newer Mac to be edited on either Media 100 ver 13 or FCP, then to be authored into a DVD using DVDSP. Does anyone here know what Quicksilver machine is the one I should get (to be the most stable, cool-running, quiet and fast enough?

Hello Christopher,
Would you help me out with my question below regarding which G4 (Quicksilver?) that I should get to setup a Media 100i ver 8.2.3a? I want a reliable, stable, quiet system for primarily digitizing (analog component, S-video and composite) at 300K/frame and at lossless. Saving media to SATA drives is essential too. And I haven’t done it yet. But I’d like to be able to use DV also. Thanks.

Well, yeah. So do you know whether or not I can get my P6000 fixed, replace it with another one or have any other solution? I just noticed that it doesn’t show any audio coming in now, even though I see audio on the deck’s meters. So it’s probably the P6000 card.

Really? This is coming from a Sony SVO-5800, which is an expensive, professional edit deck. It has a built in TBC. Maybe the Media 100 card is flaking out. Do you know whether or not there’s any repair service available for P6000 or older cards, or whether or not I can substitute another one (any copy protection thing I need to worry about)?
