V1 should be the lower most (bottom) track – I am guessing that maybe you “inserted” a video track, forcing it below track V1 – also, tracks can be renamed. Avid will always look from top to bottom regardless of track numbers or names. Glad it is working!

Another question – are you linking to video or is this media in Avid media files (MXF/OMF)?

click the monitor button in the timeline to V1 to verify your video is there. If all is good and you select monitor for V2 and you see your V2 video inset in a box and V1 goes away, then try rendering that effect. You should not have to render just for a PIP effect. Also, for testing, make sure you do nothing but drop the default PIP effect onto V2 and see what happens. BTW – I am assuming you have just video on V1 with no effects applied.

Were they Avid media files, like DNxHD, MXF or were they another file type using AMA linking? Did you copy the files into a “numbered” (like “1”) folder inside of the MXF folder? If they are not Avid MXF files then they do not go into the MXF folder structure.

Sounds like a burning issue. Try reburning or try a different DVD player and/or a different drive to burn DVD – it is a DVD-R correct?

Open Avid, project window, settings tab, double click AMA (first setting)- go to 3rd tab over and check box to enable AMA. Close and restart application.

We have the identical setup and workflow – (Avid versions, Facilis) except we are basically tapeless and our core files are P2. We do not have LTO as backup. I have read numerous articles and as you am struggling with workarounds on top of workarounds. I have no solutions but am interested in possibly tossing around ideas with you offline. I could tell you what we are doing and what I would like to do. I would like to explore Interplay … but money is the reason we have workarounds already in place! I would simply rename the folders “1”, “2”, through “8” – you could always rename to the existing names if you keep a record of original names in case this doesn’t work. This sounds like a permissions issue and I would think by renaming would eliminate that issue for all computers. Just a thought.

If you want that an as option in addtion to the movie playing through as a whole, I believe you will need to create playlists with a menu to support those options.

Perhaps Scenarist, maybe DVD Studio Pro? The bad taste in my mouth comes from Apple buying Spruce Maestro and discontinuing it. In the late 90’s Maestro had a DVD software player that would load into the Ram of a computer (one did not need access as an Admin for this player to install and run) that would allow “links” on menus to open Explorer and go to URLs, open documents like Word, PDF and such (provided the computer had the software installed to open these documents) even links to folders on the Rom Content of the DVD. This technology existed back then and why it would be discontinued and not supported is all because of money hungry companies that wanted to exploit and eliminate the competition. We have Maestro which I haven’t touched in many years because of this —- so sorry to get on my soapbox, but I would also like to know the answer to your question. The solution could be very simple for a computer programmer to “re-invent” a software player to do this task – maybe someday!
