By slide do you mean a still picture from a camera?
If that’s what you are talking about, make sure that your
stills are either jpg or png files. Also, if the resolution
of the pic is to high it can hang your render.
Reduce the resoltion and that will stop it from hanging.

If you have nested project files on your timeline
go into prefrences and reduce max render threads to 1.

I must admit that I have never considered using a shotgun
for doing V/O work. Talk about thinking outside the box.
We do have a Senn 416 that I use for more
distant applications. Since we do quite a bit of V/O’s I
can’t wait to give the shotgun a try. Will let you know if
I prefer it over the 421.

Any idea which shotgun he prefers?
My experience has been that cheap shots sound
pretty cheap. I would think that for the money
spent on a cheap shot you buy a pretty darn good dynamic.

Think I would spend the money for the Sennheiser.
Perhaps someone else out there might have a suggestion for
somthing cheaper that might do the job, but I know that the
Sennheiser 421 will not disapoint you.

Yes it can.

Do your research on pricing. I noticed that at Amazon.com
you can purchase Sound Forge 9 (it includes the NR2 plugin)
cheaper than you can purchase just the plugin by itself from
Sony’s Website. Once the plugin is installed any program that can run direct-x plugins will have access to use it.

There are many very good Voice-Over Mics.
A very good mic for the money is the Sennheiser 421.
The Electrovoice RE-20 is another great V/O Mic.
Both are dynamic mics. I use them a lot.

As I said there are many very good V/O mics but these two
are affordable and sound great.

What is your budget? If you can spend 500-1K then you could look at some condenser mics from Audio Technica, Rode, etc.

Chris,

I was reading my previous post and noticed a mistake.
What I ment to say is that Audacity does NOT have the tools needed to fix the distortion.

The past few days I have done testing of several
tools to repair clipped/distorted audio waveforms.

The tools I tested were, Audacity tool, Audition tool,
Waves Noise Reduction Tools, and Sony’s Noise Reduction 2.

What I found was that audacity was a bust, Audition & Waves
fixed light to moderate distortion. Sony’s Noise Reduction 2
plugin did an excellent job of fixing even really bad distortion.

Noise Reduction 2 comes bundled with Sound Forge 9 and is
also available seperately. I would highly recommend this plugin for cleaning up clipped audio.

Just as a disclaimer I would say that the Waves Noise Reduction toolset are more capable than this post may suggest. It has many settings that I did not try. With a bit of tweeking it is a very powerful tool. The Sony tool worked great will default settings, no tweeking.

I’m going to back out of this one since I know nothing
about P2 workflow.

I did dig up a article that Spot has at VASST.com that
describes his workflow with the HVX-200. Perhaps it can help.
