yes, it is DDR2 RAM :).

one thing i like about having a Powerbook is the fact that (i shoot on DV) when i’m shooting (using a GL2), i use my Power book as a “tester” to make sure my video looks good. I usually just open up IMovie, and watch the feed live….it’s a pretty big help, to make sure you’re shooting decent footage….and that the audio isn’t terrible….

i have had problems though, capturing from my GL2 in FCP, so i usually just import in IMovie (which I DON’T suggest to anyone, because Imovie captures a 32bit floating point audio and FCP doesn’t support that (?))…i haven’t done that much work lately to force myself to figure out the problem…but just a heads up….

i run FCP 5 on a powerbook 1.67 & 1 GIG of ram, and it runs decently fine, though i do have an external harddrive, which is definitely recommended. as for as compressor goes, 10 minutes at 7.2 1 pass VBR took about 30-40 minutes to compress…(or something like that)…..

if you’re going to be using AE or Motion, then i would definitely get a PowerMac, but FCP straight editing can be done well on a powerbook.

i did something similar, but i used AE’s built in text animator, instead of shatter……on my computer screen, everythings fine, but when i got onto NTSC i have jagged edges…..but that maybe because it was red on black…..have you tried using AE’s built in text animator???…i used the preset: explosion, and then began to reverse engineer the way the set it up….and tried to use it to my own advantage…..that may help, because instead of a raster image (i’m guessing thats what happens when you apply shatter to a text image)…you’ll still have the vector text information throughout the effect…..

    hope this helps!!!

if its just text & effects, post your .aep and/or email it to me at

    christianchoice@hotmail.com

maybe its just your machine, maybe its just something a nonpartial party may be able to detect…..

    Quicktime 7: H.264 at 300 kbs
    Quicktime 6: Sorenson 3 at 300 kbs

these are just quick roughs. if you come in around 6 or 8, bump up the kbs rate.

also, leave keyframe at 24….or drop it 15 if you’re feeling dangerous ;).

i recently did a test comparing CBR, 1 pass VBR & 2 pass VBR at 7.2 mps.

in the end, the 1 pass won because of faster encoding, and image quality is exactly like the 2 pass VBR…..

now this was done only on a 60 sec spot, but i’m guessing it will remain the same, no matter what scale the project.

if i’m not mistaken, the 2 pass took over 15 minutes, while the 1 pass took like 4 minutes….go figure. i for one didn’t want to believe it……
