Hi again…BTW have you ever encountered 5fps audio delay when loading from firewire- either off the camera or from 1400 deck? It’s just on HD firewire transfers, DV ok. I thought perhaps it was just my G4 (I have 2mb ram, 2 buses for firewire)limitations. Would a full system with Kona card take care of this?

Excellent information- thanks so much; I’ve been doing most of my shows in 60i till now; or like the last show- we did 23.98, but converted it to 60i and finished in 1080i.
This one, they want 23.98; so this was not shot in 108024pa, just 108024p, so I’m not getting a kona card-based system which should be able to handle that. I just wondered if doing standard capture off my camera of a 108024p show, would actually give me a 23.98 show, or does it do a downconvert each time to a 1080i output? Also the firewire HD always comes in at 13mb/sec. off the camera; I assume, with the kona card, you can actually select the degree of compression, or no compression, via SDI inputs…
    Best,

Ok great…so capture card only for 24p. So 108030p can be done through firewire off the deck at 59.94 then? How about thru the camera- does that output a 108030p signal, as well? Does the camera output always do the downconvert on the 23.98 then? thanks peter

One more question please; setting the system setting in this deck to 23/24 will allow 108024p
HDX900 tapes to be brought in as actual 24p, yes? What about 108030p- just system 59.94i setting?

    thanks

RE: the AJHD 1400 deck; I’m trying to output some SD DVPRO50 timelines(Sequences) off
my FCP onto the 1400 deck; it appears that pansonic does not support recording of the
DVpro50 format now. Is this correct? Any solutions?

    Thanks

    Yes…I meant HDX900, which does 1080 30p….

On a slightlier different note- we’re doing a show shot on 1080 30p on the Varicam- I’ve been told it’s best to edit this in 30p- then output to whatever format at the end. But I have an issue- some HDCAM shot at 30p- with no way to download thru firewire- unless I go J3- which may or may not work at putting out a DV res image; can I put this whole project onto a
108060i timeline- since it is much the same as 30p; then maybe in final assembly go back to a 30p? What about mixing in 1080i footage into this? Do I need latest version 6 FCP software to do this?

    thanks

October 16, 2007 at 3:27 pm in reply to: Downconversion to DigiBeta (PAL)

I have a similar shoot coming up; HD delivery in the US and Canada, but digi beta PAL in the UK; from what I’ve seen- the SD down converts should look fine- and most importantly retain the “film look” you can’t really get with digi-beta, unless it’s one of those rare newer models with 24p. My question is- we were going to shoot 30fps for the North American TV market for a clearer picture without the 2:3 pulldown look; now with the UK delivery- it’s been suggested that the downconverts from 30fps will not look great. So we’re leaning to 23.98 now- though that comes with inherant issues for shooting fast-moving wildlife photography. Any thoughts on this? thanks
