AFAIK with 5D2RGB you can apply the LUT while transcoding. Haven’t tried it since I don’t use the LUT (I grade every piece of footage individually in AE with curves, hue/saturation and levels or with Red Giants Colorista.)
Using the LUT while editing (at least with Premiere Pro which I use) is very processor heavy and for my taste, it slows down the editing process too much. But that may be just a problem with my computer.

When using the LUT you could try to apply it before (or while transcoding) so you can edit the pre-graded footage or – what works for me – I edit the ungraded footage and do all the grading afterwards in a second step. But that’s for sure a matter of taste.

What I’d try to avoid by any means is to show ungraded Technicolor Cinestyle footage to my clients. So if they want to see work-in-progress parts, the LUT (plus LUT Buddy or equivalent) is a cool and easy to use gadget to give a hint, what the final footage might look like…

AFAIK there’s no way to shoot i with the Canon DSLRs.
Why? Hmmm… That’s a question the Canon engineers might be able to answer…

Sounds like your camera is set to PAL mode. Just change settings in the camera menu to NTSC, then 1080p 30 and 720p 60 should be available.

Have to second Joseph! Nothing to worry.

Got ML on my T2i for a couple of months now. No (serious) problems. With the newer versions (like the before mentioned christmas version), installation is very easy.

One piece of advice: Sometimes the camera “hangs”, even turning it off, doesn’t help. If that happens, just remove the battery, wait a couple of seconds and put it in again.

Hmmm… not sure if there’s anything you can do to make it work.
You could try an unsharp mask filter with quite a high value (about 200) and a high radius (something between 3 and 6). But be shure to do some noise reduction before or the sharpening will increase the noise even further.

You could try to mask the talent out and just sharpen him. Sharpening of the whole picture will sharpen the background even more. Maybe add a bit of blur to the background as well.

But – as written – not sure if you’d be happy with the outcome…

Yes, Magic Lantern is a huge improvement for the Canons, but DOF has nothing to do with ML per se… You’ll get rack focussing, a kind of follow focus with the camera buttons, peaking and stuff like that to have better control plus a bunch of very useful other features (like it unlocks 160 ISOs on my T2i, gives you control over the video bitrate etc. etc. etc.).

For sure I’m not as experieneced as many others here on the COW, but yes had to do quite a couple of keying jobs in the last years.

Problem is: The Canon DSLRs don’t provide HD output via HDMI. It’s always SD. At least while recording. The 7D is an exception but as any other Canon DSLR it will always send the screen overlays, so doesn’t provide a clean-feed.
Not sure though, if you can grab the HD-Signal when *not* recording. Maybe someone can chime in here…

I have no first-hand experience with the Intensity cards or recorders (yet) but it seems to be an affordable solution to get the highest quality footage out of any camorder with HDMI-out. Could be a solution for guys like me who don’t want to give up on their “dusty but trusty” HDV or AVCHD camcorders…

From what I know, the GH2 will let you grab FullHD even while recording, so this might be working…

AFAIK the EX3 has good reputation for greenscreen-work, but I can be wrong… I’m not really the “camera guy”…

What you could consider is something like the Intensity cards from Blackmagic Design. They let you capture 10bit 4:2:2 video via the HDMI-port bypassing the camera’s compression.

So for any camcorder (except the canons for the known HDMI reasons) with HDMI port and especially for greenscreen work this could be an affordable improvement. I was thinking to get one for my Sony V1 HDV camcorder…
