    UPDATE:

Just found out what was making my system slow. I forgot an DVI to HDMI adapter plugged on the GTX570. No cables, just the adapter. Removed it and Resolve regained full speed.

    Lesson learned!

    Cheers,

    Pedro

    Hey guys,

sorry to ask on the same thread, but since my configuration is basically the same and I am having a similar problem, think it’s better to ask here than to start a new thread…

My Resolve system is also performing way below my expectations (around 9 fps) and I cant understand why. First I thought it was because I was playing .R3D files without a Red Rocket. But then I’ve imported a Quicktime ProRes file and nothing changed… so for a final test, imported a 1920×1080 .TIFF sequence, and also no luck.

Blackmagic Disk Speed gives me more than 500MB/s here, so this should not be the problem. Resolve recognizes my GTX570 (CUDA driver 5.0.17 installed) at startup.

Assimilate’s Scratch plays everything just fine at full speed, on the same system.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

Thanks Juan, that probably explains it… but I still cannot understand how I have been able to boot normally with both cards on SL for the first time.

I swear I really tried to do it right and follow the the installation instructions on the macvidcards eBay ad, but of course I missed something(s) on the way.

Thanks for your time and quick replies,

    Pedro

    David,

thanks for the info. And it seems that the problem is software related, as you guessed, because I have just managed to boot with the GTX 570 back inside, by installing and booting from a different partitiom with OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion, following Rohit’s advice.

You guys have no idea of how I feel now… I was really worried it could be a hardware problem, because it would be too time consuming to ship this card back to the US. Now I have to either find out what is the software problem with Snow Leopard or just move to Mountain Lion and don’t look back (even though I admit I don’t like this iOS feel).

Thank you so much David, Juan and Rohit!

Thanks David… but would the lack of this driver cause the machine to crash on boot like this?

Last time I’ve checked, BlackMagic recommended version 4.0.19. Are you using 5.0.17 with a GTX570, with a Quadro or something else?

And which NVIDIA driver (not CUDA) version?

    Thanks,

    Pedro

Thanks for the reply, Rohit. I’ve just purchased Mountain Lion on App Store, so I am downloading it right now…

Meanwhile I have tried resetting the PRAM and also booting in 64bit mode. No luck. :/

Will try your suggestion and write back with the results.

    Thanks

  • That did the trick! So simple it made me laugh!

    Thanks Mike and Juan!

  • Hey Juan, thanks for the reply.

I’ve installed the Tangent Hub, which seems to be necessary for both Resolve and Scratch. So I installed Scratch and it was working. Then I installed Resolve and it was also working, but disrupted Scratch communication with the panels.

My guess is that If I only could find out which driver / extension / whatever Resolve has added to the system, I could remove it whenever I wanted to open Scratch…
