I experienced similar symptoms a version or two ago. It turns out it was an Audio Unit plugin that I had installed. It totally corrupted FCPX. I couldn’t figure out why all of a sudden the application just would not work. Once I removed the AU, everything went back to normal.

Have you installed any new audio plugins?

4) As others have said, it’s just visually hiding the edit, the fade still works. I would suggest that if this is something you do a lot, map the Expand All and Collapse All Clips shortcuts to your keyboard shortcuts. It’ll help you out (at least the Collapse All).

Good tip, Andy. I use (⌃ ⌥ S) to expand all selected clips, or with no selection – what ever clip the played is parked over.

Cool. Glad it worked out. And don’t forget in 10.1 you can now roll the audio of adjoining clips independent of their associated video.

Are you using an Anamorphic Override setting for your clips?

And what Resolution are you using in the Project Settings:

I’m not suggesting these settings are what you should be using. I want to match how you are set up so I can take a look at this as well …

I don’t think anyone doubts that FCPX can edit… certainly after 10 revisions. It has a lot of good features and some not so good ones like every other NLE on the planet.

Some people will like the way it works.. others will not. I wish we could just stop treating NLE’s like Coke vs Pepsi, Apple vs Windows, Chevy vs Ford.
