True- but again if you look at 99% of motion menus on commercial DVDs you’ll see they do it this way- typically by making the length of the still portion of the menu 30 seconds to one minute. That way most users will make a selection before they see the jump point.

And besides- there’s not much specific you can do to “shoot for good looking projection” other than switch to 35mm.

Simplest method is to incorporate the still menu into the motion menu. If nothing is moving it will look like its still when in essence it’s a motion menu with no motion. if you look at most hollywood DVDs you’ll see this is how it’s done. Check into the manual for how to set a button marker so the highlights don’t appear too early.

Not missing anything- you need a dedicated slow mo plugin like Re:timer for good looking slow motion.

Shouldn’t have any- the charger will accept anything from 110, 220 and 240 which pretty much covers the globe. You’ll need get a plug adapter for the countries you’re visiting of course. Watch out for lights though- you can run into strobing issues with florescents and vapor lights running at 50 cycles.

Of course HD has more definition- that’s just a matter of fact. But that said, there are movies in theaters already that came from the DVX100. HD is only going to make good footage look better but for people like me- SD is already looking pretty good on its own. And there’s a lot of infrastructure available to enlarge SD to HD should the need arise. I’ve yet to go to a single festival with my movie that required anything above a DigiBeta SD tape for projection. That’s easily dubbed from a DVX100-originated project.

If it looks good on your monitor but bad on the projection- it’s the projection that’s the issue. There’s a wide spectrum of video projector quality out there. I’ve seen the same material look amazing on one projector and godawful on the next.
Perhaps there is a way to get a different venue or even rent a better projector for this venue to use. Spending another $500 to get nice looking projection could be something you work into your production budget.
