My direct experience is the same as Shane’s- the 800 ports are way faster than the 400 ones on both G5 desktops and on Powerbooks. MacBooks just came out with FW800 on 17″ so I haven’t had as much experience but so far they seem up to par with the rest of the line.

Still not clear why the kids would have the remote. Of course they’re going to hit all of the buttons and not pay attention. There’s a bit of design issue here beyond the tech one.

There’s really no best way to shoot to tape but it sounds like your capture settings may not be matching your camera settings.

Not familiar with either. But if you can export a 5.1 mix as 6 discrete mono channels you should be in biz.

Relax- it takes longer when things are busy and it’s basically a one-man and woman operation. Last week was spent in NYC doing an HD Bootcamp. They’ll get your batteries out asap.

Can’t the player be tucked into a locked box so that there is no way to reach the buttons?

Side note- AFAIK the PD100 is not made of titanium. It’s just ABS plastic painted gun metal grey…

You can always edit at 29.97 and leave the pulldown intact for beta.
Yes there is a wide wide difference in look between cameras and this will be ever more noticeable as you widen the gap in quality further with an HVX. A good monitor, color charts, etc can help. But if you want footage to very closely match it needs to come from the same type of camera.

True enough but then again not everyone is shooting just to please the average viewer.
