November 30, 2012 at 8:54 pm in reply to: “Not optimized” error in FCP7 when importing RGBto5D transcoded clips – should I care?Don’t seem to have render issues. But only transcoded about 2+ minutes worth, about 4 total clips, as a test.
Never rec’d that not optimized prompt in past – so don’t really know the risks of ignoring.
Sent an e-mail to Rarevision support but they’ve been slow to respond in past.

Problem is – beyond the muxing, doesn’t seem to be any other audio controls in 5DtoRGB.
Checked the original files, and they’re 48 khz/16 bit/Little Endian.
Any other ideas? Maybe FCP7 doesn’t like the Gamma control?

Actually have been in direct touch with Bouke about it.

I do want to make that program work.
No, haven’t sat down to watch the tutorials.
But is there some magic button I’m missing? And in more lazy news, checked Grinder and despite what I wrote in my post there is an “Original + Time Code” option. So not exactly a transcode (seemingly codec specs remain the same), but does create a new set of TC-added files (as opposed to associating TC to the original targeted files.) And seemingly relatively speedily. AMA linked those and TC seemed right on in Avid.

August 22, 2012 at 2:00 pm in reply to: Reccomendations for third party transcode software for HDSLR footage? Thanks for the responses everyone.
Didn’t realize 5DtoRGB was so slow.
Been trying to download the free “Lite” version but haven’t been able to get a workable link.
Will definitely look into Grinder and Offloader.

July 30, 2012 at 2:22 pm in reply to: Creating iPad/iPhone-like motion effects in FCP 7?Thanks Dave.
Thinking maybe you’re thinking I’m looking to key/composite in pics into the iPad field footage. Actually, looking to fully cut bet/ the 2; it’s just that I want what I create in post to mimic what we’re seeing in the field footage. At the most basic, I’m looking for what’s in essence a more fluid kind of wipe/push. So single pic slides on and off over black, as if it’s been pushed along by unseen finger. Also, hoping to do that particular iPad zoom in effect.
And I’m working with an editor who’s pretty AE fluent.

Thanks Justin. Did get the Mark iii workflow to work with Log & Transfer, just takes a really looong time to load in browser.
Haven’t shot with Mark iii since but will make sure DP is shooting IPB (and not I-frames.)
Had another kinda related issue. Since I downloaded latest EOS Plugin for FCP – in order to bring in Mark iii files in Log & Transfer – haven’t been able to bring in T2i/T3i files via L&T, even using the old camera plist hack. Wondering if that’s an issue for you?

April 23, 2012 at 10:24 pm in reply to: Bringing in 5d mark iii files thru Log & Transfer? Thanks Michael, but it was kind of a false alarm.
I was able to get the mark iii/ L&T workflow going – it just takes forever to load in the L&T browser. Upwards of 3 to 4 minutes. So I just wasn’t being patient enough I guess.
Hassle going forward though – and seemingly not a good sign.
Thanks, Nick. -

April 23, 2012 at 2:28 pm in reply to: Bringing in 5d mark iii files thru Log & Transfer? So called Canon.
They’re claiming latest L&T plug-in will only work if you’re targeting files off a device (ie off original cards) or a virtual drive. Also said that’s been true of previous Canon HDSLR model’s footage – 5D ii, 7D, etc. Which totally wasn’t my experience – for last 2 years been transferring full contents off cards (keeping folder structure intact) onto external drives and opening successfully in L&T from those.
Anyway, still have the cards around so tried to bring in off the original in L&T and still no luck. Again, crashed the app.
Also opened the card in Canon’s image browser – does recognize/import the footage but oddly can’t read any of the metadata for the clips.
Getting worried, Nick. -

April 23, 2012 at 2:00 pm in reply to: Bringing in 5d mark iii files thru Log & Transfer? Thanks Michael. Yeah, it’s 7.0.3.
Alright, I’ll get in touch with Canon, but not terribly hopeful.
No doubt others are starting to run into this issue . . . .
