    Hi Rafael,
Thanks for replying – I thought it might be something to do with muxing, but it’s not really my area – hence the panicky post!

Am re-ingesting the footage as QT movies which work with FC, but I’ve noticed the file sizes are huge. looks like I’ll have to try your solution!

    Cheers

    Hi ian,
Can’t help with any solutions I’m afraid but I was wondering if you’d found anything yourself since posting? I’ve run into a similar problem with my A1 showing a bit of grain under certain conditions. Tis a pain to be sure…
    Cheers

Hi thanks for getting back to me

    >Open layer panel
    >Layer styles>time>freeze frame
Then slide the upper and lower markers into position to set the freeze and duration of the freeze.

As I said it works fine in the layer panel, it just doesn’t carry over to the composition…

Probably a bit out of my budget though!
    Thanks all.

    Hi Rafael
Apologies for taking so long to reply to this post – new baby arrived 3 weeks early so had to drop everything and do some real work for a change!
Thanks for your answers – they’re real food for thought. One last question: what codec would you recommend for export in HDV?
    Thanks again,
    Neil

    Thanks Rafael,
Generally I use compressor but on the occasions when I’m exporting a low qual preview for a client or some such, I’ll just send it through conversion which got me wondering about the key frames thing.

As to your other point about not rendering in HDV, can you explain a little further – will I get better results if I transcode to pro-res?

    Cheers

Sorry, there was me thinking we were all grown ups. Apologies for offending anyone’s sensibilities.

No, you’re all right. This is a user-issue, not a technology issue. I have made a decision that after this edit I am gonna nail HDV if it kills me.

Playback set to HDV so it ain’t that.

I’ll try hooking it up in the order Dave suggested, but to be honest, I’m getting pretty pissed off trying to edit HDV in FCP. I’ve had some problem or other every time I’ve used it.

Can anyone suggest an alternative HD shooting format that doesn’t cost the earth and actually talks to FCP without the bullshit?
