Thanks David. How would that help?

That’s very helpful, thanks a lot Alex. So on your point about exporting in XML, I see Final Cut Pro XML as a choice. Is that what you mean? And I hear you on the drawbacks there. Just to confirm I’m not crazy, below is what he thought was possible, which I’m understanding you to say is incorrect?

‘Should be able to save a downward-compatible version and create a new project with all files collected into a single folder within the project.’

What we’re trying to do is for me to share a template project with him he can you as a model for some things he’s doing. I suspect it would be easier for him to start from scratch right?

    Thanks again.

Very much appreciated Steve. Let me know if others like voices.com, or have other thoughts. I was originally planning to use a Web site for recruiting actors called actors access (it’s also called Breakdown Services I think), and was wondering what rates to post for voiceover work. So I’d be curious if anyone has experience with that route too, and the rates that are typical. But either way I’ll take a close look at voices.com. Wow they’ve got a Web site for everything now!

Thank you Tim. I don’t think we even have some of the old analog systems corresponding to some of this media. In that case what’s the best option, in terms of trying to do it ourselves versus outsourcing this? And if we outsourced do you or anyone have any guidance on the best approach to finding someone?
    Much appreciated,

This is extremely helpful, much appreciated Tim! If we went with LTO tape, which sounds good, or whatever format really, what’s the best approach in terms of how the media is physically transferred? We have media on a huge range of old formats like BETA and even older video formats, as well as audio on old formats too. Are there firms that will do this for you? Do you or anyone else have any advice on the best approach there?

Much appreciated, Mark, that’s a great help. I checked out Disc Makers, which seems like it will work just fine for making the physical DVD. And I’m planning to use DVD Studio Pro (I have FCP 7 Studio) to author the DVD. I’m hoping it will be pretty straightforward how to send Disc Makers my blank authored DVD and get them to print it with a design I make on their Web site. Just let me know if you or anyone else has experience with that kind of workflow, and any other potential hurdles.
    Thanks again!

Thanks a lot Vince, very helpful. I apologize but I actually misinformed you with that screen shot, as I thought the screen settings I showed you would still apply even though they weren’t for the same project, which actually is an HD 1280 X 720 project edited in my home FCP7-based system. On PPro CC, as you rightly noticed (I hadn’t), I’ve been using SD sequences even though the underlying footage was HD. That was a mistake. Wow. I’m less familar with PPro than Fnal Cut but either way I should’ve noticed that error. Anyway, I’m going to upload a new screen shot soon with the actual settings I used for my reel. In the meantime I wondered if you’d still change the bit rate to CBR 25 Mbps if it’s a 1280 X 720 sequence, or if you’d use a higher bit rate (it goes up to 62.5)? Sorry again for the bad info.

Thanks very much for the reply Vince! I’m attempting to attach a screen shot here.
