Thanks Filip,
worked like a dream. I am trying to understand why though. The only thing I don’t follow is what the operator “+=” does. I have had some computer programming classes in college, but I learned Fortran 77. Before I get any old fart jokes, I am only 31. I guess the dinosaurs they had teaching the classes decided to stick with what they knew. I have also coded (a very long time ago) in basic, but that was almost 15 years ago in high school.
Thanks again for your time and response

February 20, 2009 at 8:18 pm in reply to: Motion Paths, Trapcode Particular, & 3D space, OH MY!I am not exactly sure of what you are trying to do, but let me take a stab. You want to have the emitter of your Particular layer follow something in 3d space but cant figure out how to link it because Particular seperates the xy and z emitter coordinates. If you picwip the particular xy emitter position to the 3d object position you want to track, it will write an expression for xy only using [0] and [1] which are xy. Then picwip the z emitter position from particular and place your cursor over the z position only of the 3d object. Do not like to the position name, but to the actual z position. This will write an expression using z only or [2]. Most of the time, I picwip to a 3d null object because it is easier to manipulate, but this will work fine, as long as I understood your question correctly.
Best of luck

fwiw,
Syntheyes does work for both 3d max and afx

I believe Mr. LaRonde has the answer you are looking for.
Import your footage. Apply the card dance effect. Set up the rows and columns to your own taste. Then, create a new solid and apply a fractal noise effect. Alt click the stopwatch on evolution and type “time*360” or whatever number you want to make the noise change faster or slower. Precompose the fractal noise layer. Back in card dance, change gradient 1 to the precomp fractal, change z position to intensity and play with the multiplier to get the effect you are looking for.
If you want, you can also create a camera, then choose “comp camera” from the camera system dialogue box to use the comp camera. Then animate as you see fit.
The only thing this wont to is put small spaces in between your blocks. Hey, we all must make some sacrifices.
Hope this helps

what exactly are you trying to do?

For whatever reason, h.264 compression out of AFX seems to have that problem. There is somewhat of a fix, however. If you open your 264 clip in quicktime and go to the tab “window” and click “show movie properties”, you can select the video track and under “visual settings” change the transparency to blend, set the slider from 50 all the way to 100, then change the transparency to “straight alpha” and check “high quality.” Exit out and the color should come back. Now save the clip with the changes. This assumes you have quicktime pro.
Hope this helps

Do you only need to photoshop one frame, or the entire clip? If the entire clip, you may be in for a long ride. Perhaps the best thing you could do is motion track the shot and then mask a portion of her unaffected collar and move it over onto the mic. Then parent it to the tracked null. Use a little mask feathering, and you should get close, unless there is a bunch of movement. Then, you tell them to shoot it next time with a boom mic.
Best of luck

February 9, 2009 at 12:01 am in reply to: Applying a Glow to a bunch of layer and using a slider to control the randomI am not sure what exactly you are trying to do, but you can achieve the effect I think you are after by applying a slider control to an Adjustment layer, then apply a wiggle expression to the glow intensity and pick wip the amount to the slider control. You can then use a random number generator on the slider control or manually adjust it. simply copy and paste the glow layer with the expression to the other layers.
Not sure what you were after, but I hope this helps.

quick question,
was the camera hand held or on a rig of some sort. Also, do you know the dimensions of the table top?

Any reason why you cant just shoot a real ice cream cone melting and composite it in? That would be a heck of alot easier and produce superior results.
