I think i Remember seeing that footage when the 350 was first announced. you are right about the difference between CCD and CMOS but when you know the limitation of each and know how to work around them then things get a bit easier.

“There’s always a trade-off. You buy what suits your subject matter and your budget.”

the problem with this is i work at a university and we have been slammed by the whole budget crunch silliness, so i’m asked to slash what i can. i’m just really hoping that the trade off with this option are very minimal 🙂

Biggest tip you and your camera operators be there for as many rehearsals as you can. see what the band does and what blocking they have for there stage. the more times you see there show the more you will notice what you need to make sure to record.

if you can’t be there for rehearsals or you don’t have much time to plan your set up. with 4 cameras i would have 1 in the back as a lock down wide ( don’t put it on the jib if you don’t have to) i would use your jib either stage right or left as close to the stage as you can ( you may have to content with spectators who can’t see. ) place camera 3 opposite the jib stage left at least stage height or higher 45 degree angle works great. use camera 4 as a hand held or roving camera. ( great for crowd shots close ups on drummer etc. ) if you can’t hand hold it then i would place it in front of the stage Getting your lead singer as you thought about.

As for your sound i would get my own small mixer get the feed from the house and also set up some crowd mics. ( live guys almost always cut the mics when the crowds cheers at the end of a song)

send that feed to whatever you are recording to.

Between the two cameras you mentioned i would personal go with the jvc 700s and purchase some studio configurations. IE focus, zoom controls, and monitors. You should look at adding some sort of video switcher for keying your lower thirds and switching camera feeds. as for the switcher and graphics you could go with either a Broadcastpix slate 100 https://www.broadcastpix.com/Products/Slate-100.html or a Newtek xd300 https://www.newtek.com/tricaster/xd300.php

Don’t worry about getting crazy projectors just get some that project 1920×1080.

…”If the University has that much money you shouldn’t be worried about using theatrical fixtures instead of telvision fixtures. Train your students on the right instrumentation for the job.

This is what I figured as well. While we have the money we also have the bureaucracy, Administation Most times only looks at Dollar amounts and says “why don’t you go for this instead of that, look its cheaper” Since I’m not lighting expert I need all the infomation i can get to defend why we need to go with Studio fixtures.

Also consider purchasing pole-op television fresnels for your students to use. It’s much safer, and more convenient and efficient.

This is also something i want to look into

    Thanks for the info.

“I would suggest some fluorescent fixtures”

We are planing on getting 6 Kino flo 4-banks for lighting a green screen/cyc wall

but i figure that we can use them in more shoots then just those

    Thank you for you response.

The studio grid will hang at about 16 feet. as for the 2k being beefy, yes the idea is to add chimeras to them.

I’m not sure if renting will work, We are in southeast Idaho, the closes facility to rent anything is in Salt Lake City Utah. But do you do have a point maybe I can get something arranged.

we recived some quotes back from dealers, and they gave us a couple of different options between Arri, Altman, and Desisti, The prices they quoted were all reasonable around the same price point. when it comes to those specific manufactures does one stand out above the rest?

I have heard that Arri is considerd High end, is that correct?
