I think we need to add some more pedals and integrate the radio and cruise control buttons on the steering wheel. We could add a jog and shuttle function to the radio dials and air conditioner knobs. All of those buttons most drivers can use without looking.
Didn’t the Lightworks have pedals or a touch screen interface?
Apparently at NAB 1982 or so when the Lightworks was being demonstrated, using raw footage from Return of the Jedi, it was the most popular booth in town.
Ron, if the members of this forum come up with a new product idea, like in-car editing, who owns the IP?
Incidentally, a car makes a quiet audio booth in a pinch.
Years ago before I joined the company, they had a yellow Winnebago called The Banana. They had an edit bay and drove around the US and Canada filming and editing surgery. Only problem was there were four guys living in the thing too.

Steve – on a few occasions I have rendered files on laptop while driving to a meeting, the airport or train station. You thinking texting is dangerous while driving, try using Adobe Encore behind the wheel.
I see the occasional ad looking for people with an HD camera to shoot news stories about their local community for like $25 per story. Bad news.
Personally I am looking for an administrative assistant who can type, make travel reservations, manage my expenses, send faxes and who owns a RED camera.
Know anyone like that?

I agree that a “consultant” is a person who “consults.” Rather than trying to make yourself appear more useful or impressive with a fancy title, just put your best foot forward and show your best work and/or skills available for hire.
If you need something for your website header besides just your name, come up with a clever or memorable DBA name and use that.

This thread makes me think back to college. I was always amazed at the shoddy course work by some fellow students. Why go to college if you are just going to slack off and not get anything out of your time there, and great financial investment? I always found I had to work extra hard if I wanted to do an inferior job at something.
Assuming you have learned the skills and acquired the knowledge needed to complete the job, how could you do anything less than your best?Yes, you always stand the chance of being undercut by competition. Although are hacks who charge too little for professional work really competition? Maybe not on the same playing field, but anyone who takes break from your plate is competition. As with the numerous grinders threads, sometimes you have to walk away.

this explains why I only remember the first half of that NIN concert my wife dragged me to.

Primera Disc Publisher Pro with Taiyo Yuden glossy discs. Hmm, things seem to be repeating themselves.
We went through a variety of robotic systems, but they were slow and unreliable.
We recently picked up a 15 disc at a time duper from Discmakers. Awesome, fast and reliable. Blows away the duping thoughput of robotic dupers.
Anything over 1000 we use Cinemagnetics or Princeton Disc.
One-off discs for a review copy of something gets a printed label with our company logo. Much more professional than a Sharpie.
Put your best foot forward no matter what you do.

We have a few Cine Golden Eagle awards displayed in our lobby for work done in the early 90’s. They do look cool. But you need to define why you want to enter a contest.
If you happen to win, and can get some local press, that could be good for business.
If you want some trophies to display, go for it.
I think a better solution is to display positive feedback from clients for the work you did for them.We use a few testimonials from customers in our marketing. Years ago I did a series of videos on prevention of scald injuries in children. I got a nice letter from the NY State Commissioner of public Health thanking me for my efforts. That is much nicer than an award, in my opinion.
Occasionally I get copied on an email from a client in which my name or company is mentioned in a positive way – that’s better than an award.
Word of mouth gets around, and non-clients hear good things that we have done for our clients, and these other companies call us wanting to be clients too. That’s much better than an award.Granted, if the client wants to enter a contest, they are welcome to do so.
Above all else, know that the work you do for others is as good as you can make it, and that you are getting paid to do this good work. If a client wants recognition for your work, then that is bonus.

Cool idea.
Digital Juice makes great products, but best of all they have all those great tutorials. Sure they hope you will buy their stuff, but the tuts are truly educational and useful.
We buy a lot of their stuff.Mike Cohen

Depends upon what we are selling. Our company does a combination of direct sales, work for hire and services combining many aspects of our services.
It’s all about knowing who to contact. For product lines that are sold directly to a known customer, a surgeon for example, we may selectively contact these folks with an e-mail or phone call. It helps to have a relationship with someone already, or alternatively a relationship with someone the lead knows. This gets back to the many conversations about networking – not just social networking, which is a 21st century word for what people in business have always done.
Lately we have been using e-mail marketing to promote events and products. We use an established list of past and current customers. In our latest effort, at least 50 people out of 1500 recipients clicked a link to the offering, and at least 11 people actually made a conversion, that is, a purchase. And we are happy with that result, based upon what we are selling. But we also sent out a mailing via snail mail to the same group of people, so repetition is as important as how you contact someone.
