A row of 4′ double bank across the top would be a good start. these units are light height and low power consumption. You’ll need a grid hung in the ceiling by qualified professionals together with proper grip gear to mount the lights, and don’t forget the safety tethers as anything hung needs a safety backup restraint. Purchase extra head feeders to have the ballasts all together to operate off to the side.
I know there has been several posts on green screen lighting and my suggestions are only the start of what you will need to provide profession results. Each shoot has its own needs and each cameraman relies on equipment they trust so don’t rush into the cheapest lighting suggestion here or any other forums. I’m sure Rick and Todd will agree you can’t go wrong with Kino’s for lighting a small green screen set like this.
Good Luck

I believe the answer is YES.
I used theAJ-HPM110 P2 Mobile recorder with the Toshiba lip stick cameras for a new show. I don’t believe DVC Pro can record a full raster 1080 signal. The Toshiba only sends a 1920×1080 60i signal and I believe the P2 Mobile recorded it as 1280×1080. I will say we used it in extremely hot weather the Death Valley with 2 units in side 3 cars and they only issue was the batteries so I rigged 3 new deep cells with and inverter and they ran all day. The outside temp was 122 degrees so the inside could have been over 150 and they worked for three days in this heat.Another choice that is just starting to ship is the Convergent Design Flash XDR compact flash HD-SDI recorder. It uses much lower power consumption while allow you to choose the compression level.

I follow Rick and Todd,
If you don’t know what to do I believe you should ask advice from a real DP, LP or more importantly a real Gaffer to access the location.Good Luck

Mark,
I would be happy to find your rubbish bin and take these off your hands as these LED are IMO a wonderful new tool. I have 3-LED 500’s and my units meter out with my Minolta color meter very favorable, the color temp is 5900 kelin needing only a small 1/8 – 1/4 minus green correction that affectively brings the kelin temp down to 5600. I believe you should reconsider these units or send my an email so I can take them off of your hands. In the 90’s when Kino flo’s where hot I was Gaffing the Profiler and had over 50 Kino’s on one set, I felt like a color meter maid as these units would heat up and change color and need various corrections battling to keep them color constant. The LED 500 are very color constant and correcting any source is apart of lighting. Before you trash this lamp think about how rewarding it actually is to have a heatless daylight, affordable, compact low power consumption lamp to work with.Good Luck

Here in Southern Cal the sun is always the only thing in the sky and I found using a full and half Soft Frost raw is great for direct sun. The best way to describe it is Pearly. On Faithful Friends I flew a 40×60 1/2 silent Grid Cloth for a month over the set about 13-14 feet up that gave me a wonderful even source to work with. I shaped this by using a 12×12 soild over the talent only allowing the soft light to wrap behind the talent and I used large HMI’s to create the sun for the key and fill. The silent half Grid Cloth is very kind and I really like it. For your 2-6×6 frames having 1 medium diffusion like the half Grid or full Soft Frost would make your life better and have a silver & white Ultra Bounce rag for the second frame would be a nice compliment.Good Luck

August 4, 2008 at 2:01 pm in reply to: EX3 Best workflow for HD-SDI uncompressed capture…?You will need an HD-SDI capture card, Kona LHe or Kona 3 would be a good way to go.You should have the speed to go uncompressed but why not use Pro Rez as it is a 10 bit codec. This system is fine for controlled sets where you have enough time and a designated area to setup the Mac Pro and someone to operated it with proper AC power, but there is another option. Rather than this ball and chain method you could look into the Convergent Design Flash XDR compact flash HD-SDI recorders that can give you the quality you need in a small box. This is the most affordable system to get near uncompressed quality without all the hassle of the Mac Pro, the raid, and the person to operated it.

Todd,
Circuit breakers for wall plugs are either 15 or 20 amps, and most new buildings are 20 amps. I never believe a plug in any room is isolated to that room and can supply the maximum value of the breaker. Every building is different and knowing where to find dedicated circuits can help, Start with the kitchen as there should be at least 2 circuits in there, 1 for the garbage disposal underneath the counter and one for the Microwave, electrical rooms and service outlets near AC units outside can be a great source for dedicated circuits. Remember the longer the extension cord the more line lose you will have that creates more amps.If you are going to use more than one lamp on an extension cord then make sure you use 12/2 cable and 20 amp rated adapters and not those orange cords from Target. I would rate your 1200 watt HMI @ 12 amps and the 800 watt joker @ 8 amps inflating value to what the lamp actually needs to ensure against popping breakers. You should be able to run both of these lamps from 1-20 amp breaker provided you are completely sure nothing else is on this circuit breaker. Don, I haven’t been able to down convert using the new Clip Browser 2.0 with my EX1 HQ files, do you think the F-350 files can be down converted to SD using the new CB 2.0?

What Camera are they shooting with? What version of FC are you using?
If they shoot XD Cam recording to XD cam disks then yes you will need a deck to move the the files onto your editing system if they are shooting with the new XD Cam EX1 then they will deliver a hard drive with the files on it to you as the EX1 records to SxS solid state memory cards and there is no disks.Good Luck
