Exactly the same quality and file as using the SxS cards. The only issue is that you sacrifice the over-crank feature.
Do some research on MxR/SDHC, MxM, Hoodman RAW SDHC, and you will see how this works. I would onlt recommend Transcend Class 6 SDHC at the moment. There are alot of good companies but this is the brand hasn’t had any major issues.

If you need an alternative to SxS cards then purchase the MxR SDHC adapter and some Transcend 32 gig SDHC class 6 cards.

I wouldn’t use this external recording device because the EX is a much better codec than HDV that the Focus Enhancements FS-4ProHD can record. This device can only record HDV and not the XD Cam EX codec. This is a huge difference in quality.
THe EX records full raster 1920×1080 i or P use the HQ record mode that yields 35Mbps bit rate, HDV = 25Mbps bit rate. Not worth the time or expense if you asked me.
If you want to unleash the cameras potential you should find the Convergent Design Flash XDR and record at a much higher bit rate that wraps the file in MXF or .MOV Quicktime. The Flash XDR will give you added record time and near uncompressed broadcast quality.

“So why the myth about fluoros throwing off magically-diminishing light?”
Flos and fresnel lights are completely opposite light sources.
The fresnel has a designed lens to focus the beams of light and has a rear reflector to increase these beams of light and they are directed in what I call a straight line.
The Flo is a completely diffused light to start with and outputs what I would call spinning light beams that to some seem to fall off faster.
The spill from a flo is much harder to control and needs enough space to be properly cut, and by the nature of this diffused light some people may not take issue with this spill as they would with a fresnel.
But I’m sure you’re correct with each type of light has the same diminished value.

I saw these at NAB and they do have a battery with in them. I believe you could even change out the drive once it is full with another one.

The second video is heavily software processed using something like Final Cut Smooth Cam that tries to stabilize video with motion tracking. I fail to see your point, I don’t understand how you can call attention to the rolling shutter from using a software stabilization.

I don’t see any issue from the shutter. What I see is a shaky operator. Obviously if you reduce the frame rate from 50i to 25p you will see more bobbles from operating hand held. This is where a good operator makes his money.

I believe we won’t see too many broad strokes as both Sony and Panasonic will milk what they have and these cards will be around for at least 10 years.
With a $16,000 optical deck (Sony PDW-F75 XDCAM HD Recorder) it wouldn’t seem possible Sony would ever consider dumping this type of technology.
The problem with getting uncompressed on a SDHC is that SLC memory would be needed and it takes much more real-estate than the MLC memory of the SDHC cards on the market. It might be possible but you wouldn’t have enough record time.
