One other thing. They asked for the material in 1080p24. I captured using the “AJA KONA LH- 1080psf 23.98 DVCPro HD” easy set up. Is the material that I captured in the same format as they requested, 1080p24?

Figured it out myself. I just did a save as in quicktime pro and un-checked the little endian checkbox in the sound settings. Kept everything else the same.

I just spoke to my client who told me that they would indeed take 23.98 files. And then I called Aja who set me straight on the capture settings for the material.

FYI, when I spoke to the tech at Aja, he said that he’d provide me with a file to install into my FCP settings that would take care of the problem that I had when trying to get FCP to capture from this deck. I got a error message that said that the “deck speed” was out of whack. Supposedly FCP has trouble communicating with the Sony J-H3 deck and the file he sent me would solve this issue. I mention this for future readers of forum. Call Aja for more info or write me at michael.escher@gmail and I will forward you the file called “disable alt polling”.

Hi Jeremy and thanks for your response.

The company I am doing the work for has been contracted by another client to do the work, so I don’t have direct access to the final user of the video files, but I do have an email of what they requested. They want the HDCAM material converted to DVC-PRO quicktimes. Since my client, who was contracted by the original client, is a PC based editing and conversion company they called me, “Mr. Macintosh” to to the work.

The specs that they requested of the DVC pro material follows: “Format: DVCPRO HD (1080i60), 1280×1080 (1888 x 1062) millions, 16-bit integer (big endian), mono 48.000 kHz, 16-bit integer (big endian), mono 48.000 kHz, FPS: 29.97”. Then, in a further email they ask that the material be “created using the 1080/24pA setting if possible”.

So, it doesn’t seem mission critical to deliver the work in 1080 24pA as long as it is 24 fps DVC-PRO HD with discrete right and left audio channels. I just need to get the deck and the computer to talk to each other in the right way.

FYI, I have been connecting the computer to the Kona LHe using the SDI in cable and had set the audio in on the Kona control panel to embedded audio.

Anyhow, any suggestions on ways to make the deck and kona card talk and make nice?

You know, you are right Tamim. I called a non factory repair place and they told me that their service charge was $150 hour. I then took the camera down to Cypress (I live in Hollywood) and found out from the woman at the repair desk that JVC charges only $125 an hour!!!

Makes me feel a lot happier about getting the repair done for less and it’s genuine factory service. Thanks for steering me in the right direction.

PS- I’d like to add that I’d prefer going to an independent repair shop as opposed to the JVC corporate shop since the camera is out of warrantee.

Right. I did that. And it’s still crashing when I render the QT file with the simple, non-moving titles I did in FCP. It still crashes all the time.

Slow? My god, it’s impossible. I tried each and every way I could think of (having FCP being the only program running, letting the auto render do the rendering, etc.) and each and every time the computer would lock up half way through the render requiring a hard restart. Over seven times I did this (changing the set up each time) putting at least a half an hour into each render before it crashed again. And I have a nice new powermac with five gigs of memory, an Aja LHe card and breakout box and a RadeonX1900 graphics card. WTF?

I finally did render out the movie and imported it into FCP, but I have to say that it kind of defeats the purpose if “real time” changes and file exchanges between the two programs when you can’t render out from a Motion file in FCP. I may as well be using After Effects and Premier, which as others have mentioned in this thread, is much easier to fine tune than what I was able to do in either FCP or Motion. I love Final Cut and the Macintosh platform, but until they get their s*** together in their FCP Studio platform, why should I buy it again?
