I’d really like to but my AJA Io would also need to be replaced and the software and harware upgrade cost in Australia is over $6000. I Went to Avid some years ago during the FireWire issues when Apple went to Intel processors. I think that the current problems must be related to QuickTime.

Thanks guys, sadly upgrading to 7 is a very expensive fix.
What you’re saying is that it’s the usual OS versus software clash. What’s weird is that MC5 and 10.6.4 are supposed to be made for each other and they won’t capture HDV either.

Adam did anyone post a solution? I to have a similar probelm with FCP5.1.4, Snow Leopard and Quicktime 7 Pro…The Mac won’t even see the deck and flags a HDV-DV error??? The same system running Avid will start to capture at 1080i MXF but stops after a few seconds. If I use iMovie 6 the system captures 1920x1080i to Apple Int. Code perfectly without dramas!

  • Have a look on the Avid Media Composer forum and you’ll see that sadly this is a major AVID fault and so far no fix has been offered. Quicktime 7 offers easy HDV capture but no deck control. QT.mov files thus produced still have to be linked via AMA for editing or Imported into MC and the import happens at play speed!
    Avid should be shot!
