Thanks!
So if I were to use Avid’s 36Mbps codec to save, say, 50Mbps 1080p MPEG2 raw files from camera, would that be a good idea if I wanted to save some space? Or would I be better off using something like Apple Intermediate? Would the same thing apply to lower bit-rate raw files, like 720p?

June 28, 2012 at 5:51 pm in reply to: XDCAM MXF files with separate audio tracks- how to ingest? It most likely wasn’t transferred properly, and that’s my fault. I didn’t know any better when I was copying it over.
I’ll have to remember this for next time!
Thanks.

Well, let me clarify- it’s not my VERY first chroma key. Done it once before, but it was a fast-paced project, and had a LOT of keying (90 employees at my company, so 90 different clips). However, they were just keyed out and put onto a flat color background.
For this next project, I will be placing the individual into an environment or background, which hasn’t been decided yet.
I will check out that site though, there is certainly more for me to learn. Thanks!

I use MPEG streamclip for conversion right now. Is there something faster for AVCHD files?

I’m glad you mentioned that actually- I use Adobe, and I’ve been trying to find out wether AVCHD or MPEG2 will make my life easier. AVCHD is attractive to me due to it’s lower bit rate because I don’t want to take up a lot of storage space. But If I will have to convert it to a higher bitrate codec that’s easier to edit, then that will be a point for me to consider. I’m also not terrible concerned about the 4:2:2 vs 4:2:0 as I wont be doing a lot of serious color correction or Chroma keying.
Does AVCHD work well with Premiere and After Effects, without converting?

May 23, 2012 at 2:27 pm in reply to: Having trouble deciding which mic to buy for my basic setupThanks- I’m learning towards a shotgun mic, as I was also thinking it would double as a voiceover tool, which I do have to do pretty often (Currently use a snowball). Unfortunately, the only thing I have to use right now is the “acoustical foam inside an 18″ fabric cube” setup for a soundbooth, and my recording locations all have “air duct” noise which is a terrible pain to remove in Soundbooth. I’m hoping a shotgun mic would help remove some of this ambient noise, as long as it doesn’t catch any extra reverb on the back wall.
That Sennheiser mic looks beautiful, but unfortunately way above my budget. I need something around $200.
Does anyone have any luck using a tabletop stand placed to the side for filming, when an overhead boom isn’t possible?

May 14, 2012 at 12:57 pm in reply to: Expression to make a boat “ride” on top of generated waves?Totally makes sense. I had completely forgotten I switched the wave effect, but not that I would have figured out the issue anyway.
Thanks for the suggestion, and all the help!
