    Completely and utterly.

  • I agree. The price difference isn’t enough to tempt me after my last bad RAM experience. A fluke I know, but I’ll find some other way to save $500 on this machine, like going with the 512GB SSD instead.

I’m not quite so pessimistic, but I am highly doubtful that Apple will release the MacPro and FPCX on either of the NEXT Tuesdays: those being Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve respectively…

If I was to guess, I’d say there some special circumstances at play here- and maybe that means Apple will break it’s usual Tuesday release pattern for major updates. So maybe late this week or Monday next.

But I think if Apple realized the just weren’t going to meet their December date, they would have made some kind of PR announcement by now.

  • I agree- I think they’ve overweighted the price of the CPUs and undervalued the GPU upgrades in their calculations.

Yeah, I’m not sure I’m buying their calculations- but we’ll see I guess…

    That would be crazy.

I’m willing to wager it’s more hardware than software related.

This is the best advice that no one wants to hear- WAIT.

Wait for someone to line these machines up and test them on the software you use. Not benchmarks. No guesswork.

It may mean you won’t be able to order a machine for a month- but you won’t be sweating your decision later.

Exactly- for those who need to pick their battles with the price, waiting on app specific benchmarks is going to be crucial. If something take 10min to render with D700s, and twice that with D500s, the user will have to decide if they can take that hit, depending on how graphics intensive their workflow is.
