I stumbled upon the solution today, I decided to delete all the render files relating to my projects and open my project again and re-render the timeline, and it works perfectly fine, no more sluggish playback. Don’t know the reason behind it, but as long as it has solved my problem, I’m happy.

Thank you all for your suggestions.

I re-examined my timeline and found that all of my clips are in PR422 codec except for one super which is in Animation codec. My timeline is HDV 1080i 50, is it possible that FCP or my HDD or my RAM don’t have enough power to calculate the animation clip while playing the timeline, thus causing it to be sluggish? If so, is there any solution to the problem?

I’ve re-installed FCP Studio, but the problem still exists. Any suggestions to what I should do next? Thanks.

I’ve already trash the preferencesa and repair the HDD. The problem is still there. I’m checking the ram now using memtest, hopefully it’ll give me some answers.

the strange thing is when I hook up the LaCie to another Mac Pro, it works perfectly fine, no sluggish performance. And yes, I’ve already converted those Canon HD to PR422.
