Thanks Eric, once I deleted the AIF file from the DVDSP build it encoded just fine!
I see from your posts that you’re the Bitvice champion around here. Can you recommend settings or a workflow that will allow me to create the ‘superior’ rendering capability of Bitvice vs Comressor? So far I can’t see what all the fuss is about.
thanks

Hi Eric
Thanks for the reply. Perhaps it’s a restriction with the Demo, but I can only save audio as AIF?? I’m going to do test right now to see what happens if I try to encode without the audio file! Stand-by.

Would you be able to share with the specs of your digital-rapids system?

The big decision is do I bite the bullet and get an HD/SD encoder or do I just get an SD encoder. (I know the answer already, bite the bullet, future proof my investment)Also, I’ve had one suggestion for software QC using:
https://www.inlethd.com/encoding/19/17/Semaphore/
any other suggestions?

That’s a great suck. BTW, you don’t have any suggestions for a software video Quality Assesment solution do you? Apart from QC’ing the encodes I’ve got to also give the client the option of passing all the tapes through a QAR before hand!
cheers

I’ve had a look at Digital Rapids. They certainly are branded as the leaders in the field. I guess I was hoping that whichever solution I bought would be more FCP compatible so that I could offer a superior MPEG2 encoding option to my clients. It seems a bit wasteful to spend the kind of silly money on a Digital Rapid hardware system and then still not have a decent encoding solution on the FCP side (short of buying Bitvice/CinemaCraft etc.)
Thanks again.

I’m beginning to open up to that idea…
I’m just not sure how a pc is going to integrate with my FCP/Blackmagic capture station. I will probably have to look at a dedicate RAID/NAS/XRAID to handle data and management of all the encoding.
Any experience with pc’s and mac’s sharing storage in this way?Llewelyn @ Fireworks

The call I have to make is to upscale my operations and I’d like to stay in mac territory if I can help it. Introducing PC’s seems like an added level of complexity and management which I’d like to avoid if I can. On the other hand, perhaps some of the pro’s out there can weigh in on running post-facilities with both pc’s and macs.
cheers

January 8, 2009 at 1:30 pm in reply to: Request for owners of new MacPro’s with ATI HD 2600 XT — error msgI’ve had a similar problem. I’ve been running my FCP suite on a quad until I bought an 8Core last month. When I opened a job I onlined on the 4Core (with the ATI1900 card) on my new 8Core I found one or two shots with filters applied (blur) that would not render. I have deducted that the ATI HD 2600’s 256mb of video memory is not enough to render the filter which did render with the ATI 1900’s 512Mb of video memory.
I’m still looking for a way to upgrade my 8Core without having to resolve to buying a new ATI1900.
