Lighting fixtures are like a painter’s brushes; they don’t come with “documentation” either.
While certain types of lights are commonly used for certain purposes, everyone lights differently. For example, I may choose a Kino Flo Diva for a kicker, while others prefer a Fresnel. It all depends on the effect you are after and how you prefer to achieve it. It’s usual practice to employ soft sources as key, but for some looks you have to use hard lights; nothing is set in stone.
Unfortunately, your question is over-broad; we can help with specific suggestions and approaches, but the “how to light” question is well beyond the scope of any forum.
Perhaps you can find someone in your area willing to give you some training; you can always start experimenting, but it can be the long way around.
