January 30, 2012 at 1:09 pm in reply to: Tracking live action—how important are markers?Ok thanks. I am doing my best to get up to speed quickly. Like I say, I have done motion tracking before, but not really with regard to planar tracking or 3D tracking. I have access to Lynda so I will have a search on there!
Just one last thing: My client recently threw a bit of a curveball in his last email saying that they plan to use a special effects lens on some of the shots. The lens is made by Lensbaby. These lenses create a ‘targeted lens blur’ allowing you to focus on a specific part of the frame, blurring and distorting the rest. Examples here -> https://christophermartinphotography.com/tag/lensbaby-muse/
I realize this isn’t a standard question, but could this make tracking a nightmare? I am tempted to push back and request that any tracked shots are filmed without this lens. What do you think?

January 30, 2012 at 9:37 am in reply to: Tracking live action—how important are markers? Thanks, I will look into the camera tracking software and perhaps try the demos.
I’m not sure I understand their purposes so well though, surely in performing 3D tracking this is something Mocha already covers? At $300+ is it essential for this kind of project?
Thanks

January 30, 2012 at 9:34 am in reply to: Tracking live action—how important are markers? Thanks, that’s an incredibly helpful response. Clearly tracking markers aren’t going to be needed on any reasonably detailed scene.
I’d rather avoid having to paint out unnecessary markers if I don’t have to. Appreciate the write up

Worked like a charm!! And rendered twice as quick as a TIFF sequence for some reason!
Saved my ass, thanks a bunch!

I especially like the last part!
I will try this, and see how it goes. Thanks! -
Hey thanks guys, an image sequence seems like a really good idea.
My only question with this is, when it came to convert that image sequence to a MOV or H264, I would need to use AE again, wouldn’t I?I’m a bit worried the same problem might happen where it can’t handle creating such a big MOV, or would it be easier for it to convert from TIFF sequence instead of pre-rendered MOVs?
I had a look into converting image sequence in QT, looks OK but I can’t see where to put the sound on? Sound and sync is really important because this is a little lyric video for a music track!
Thanks guys (Have checked multiprocessing, openGL are all off, fonts OK. Secret settings are now on!)

January 14, 2011 at 9:11 am in reply to: Why can’t I precomp text/shapes and select ‘leave attributes in comp?’Yeah I thought about resizing the comp, but it’s fiddly to get the exact size for each of the comps, given how many of them I’m going to have.
There’s a function I’ve not used before called ‘Trim comp to work are’ which sounds like it might ‘trim’ the comp like in Photoshop but it doesn’t seem to do anything…
It just seems that given the comp *can* be resized manually like you say, I can’t see any reason why adobe couldn’t have coded AE to do this for you?
bah!
