  • IF your footage is in mpeg format, that can slow things down as AE constructs the current frame from keyframes and changes thereafter. I would try converting it to an uncompressed format where the full image is included at each frame.

On the other hand, in AE 1 hour render time for 1 minute of footage is not unusual. In fact, that’s my general expectancy with animations rendered out of AE.

  • Would be nice if Adobe used a logical versioning system, like CC2019 was numbered 19.XX…

Yes, in that case you will need to track the shape. And you’re pretty much stuck with having to adjust it manually when the line returns to the left edge.

Second, more complicated but more automated option:

For a faster automated tracking, you might want to try is making a comp that is just a bit taller than the height of the green line, then isolating green only with channel combiner or keylight or some such thing. Then fattening the line (with minimax) and rendering out at a lower resolution (like quarter resolution). Then you could motion track it with a very wide tracking area, but it should be 16 times faster at quarter resolution. Apply result to a null. Then you will have to copy the tracking results (i.e. the null) to your main comp and scale it up using a new null. Parent the tracking null to the new null, scale the new null to 400% and unparent.

Hard to say if that is going to be any faster, since there are more steps.

Don’t know of one that works directly in PPro, but some external options exist:

    ffmpeg: https://www.ffmpeg.org/
    PD Howler: https://www.thebest3d.com/howler/index.html
Old AE plugin Duplicate Frame Remover (officially CS4 compatible, but may work in CS6): https://aescripts.com/duplicate-frame-remover

Not exactly what you’re looking for, but this might help some. If you export via Adobe Media Encoder, you can turn on the preference to “play chime when finished encoding”. That way you will be alerted when the export finishes.

Most of them should be straightforward enough. Is there something that you specifically need help with?

Since there’s nothing else green in the footage, you should be able to extract the green only and “fatten” it to a rectangle (with minimax) then turn it red with a color or tint effect.

It depends more on the quality of the footage than the keying software. If the lighting is right and the footage has been shot raw, you should be able to do it. If the lighting is not ideal or there is any compression in the footage, it is better to get rid of the shadow and generate it from a copy of the matte you generate for the person. At least in my experience.

Probably the simplest way, if you have a lot of these, would be to split the shape in two in the middle of the loop part, so it is really two separate animations and animate one part right after the other to make it seem continuous.

The other way (one I usually use, since I don’t encounter this issue that often) is to add an animated mask which hides those parts of the second half of the line that do not need to show up when it is first crossed. More fiddly, but easy enough if you have just a couple of them to deal with.
