    to clarify my ‘ps’ question:

    I have to mask a microphone cable.
    I send the clip to motion, create a clone, add a beziere mask and outline the area (with the red dots). I then add the gaussian blur at a setting of about 5 and all is fine, but the microphone cable moves slightly over the duration of the clip and my microphone cable slowly reappears.
    How can I track the microphone cable in motion so that my ‘hand drawn’ mask follows the cable?

    I might repost this issue seperately as it doesn’t really belong under the title ‘subtitles’, but if you feel like offering any advice on this post it will be very appreciated as always!

    I should really have figured that out myself! – I was just sure there was a tickable box of some sorts somewhere!

    I was actually hoping for something even smaller, but I am under the impression that the EX series is the smallest/lightest I can get whilst retaining quality.
    Do you have any other suggestions if I were prepared to sacrifice some quality?

    thanks again for the answer 🙂

    with regard to this question and the two I posted in the FCP forum:

    I now have all the footage imported as AIC and as ProRes (HQ).
    Some of the AIC files are heavier than their corresponding ProRes files, but I will ignore this and still use the ProRes (and never use AIC instead of ProRes!).

    The time issue regarding the AIC vs ProRes files: I will attempt to ignore this and hope that upon replacement into the timeline, this will not have any effect (although I don’t see how this would not affect the length of the film).

    But the sequence settings in my FCP 6 have changed to fit the original clip setting = the sequence settings are in AIC 🙁
    so, should I re-connect the media replacing the AIC files with the ProRes files and then open a new sequence having changed the sequence settings to ProRes, or should I create a new project, copy the AIC sequence into the new project, saying NO when promted to change the sequence settings to fit the settings of the clip (thereby retaining the ProRes settings), and then replace with the ProRes files?

    thanks for the quick reply!

    yes, the AIC files come from IMovies, but I still don’t understand why when I import the 2 identical full clips into FCP, the ProRes file is 5 frames longer than the AIC file.

    yes, I usually work with XDCAM and import these files into a ProRes timeline, but this time its different and I am sat with no other choice than importing these files from a sony handycam (originally AVCHD files).

    I am still concerned about replacing the AIC files with the ProRes files. Everything matches apart from duration which differs by 5 frames each and every clip…(replied earlier that the duration was the same, but was looking in the finder – these 5 frames only show up in FCP..)

    I have imported again – same results..

    Would you advise to use the ProRes .mov clip regardless of it being smaller than the AIC .mov clip?

    Yes, I did take the length of the shots into consideration when making the comparison – in all cases.

    I rarely (in this case) get a Pro Res file which is twice the size of the AIC file. Some are much bigger, most slightly and then some smaller. There are quite a few that are smaller – perhaps 10% of the imported files.

    Perhaps it is as suggested something to do with IMovies…

    Both are shown as QuickTime Movie files (.mov) in the finder and show AIC or Pro Res in the QuickTime movie properties.
