had a little go. See some value in it though I can replicate it by dragging along the top of the timeline as before. Thing is the advantages of it seem to out weigh the annoyance of the fact i use a mouse a lot and my cursor hovers here and there and suddenly i hit space and start viewing it somewhere i don’t want to.

I’d rather just turn it off on the timeline so i don’t have to keep hitting s to switch between using the timeline and scanning clips in my bins

V1 is my way of explaining the first track of video above the primary (A0/V0). Let’s see if I can show this:

V2 clip4
V1: clip1 | clip2 | clip3
Primary: audio on here audio on here audio on here audio on here

So when I used your short cuts to life clip2 up and then shorten it, then shortcuts put it back on the Primary, when it came from V1

V2 clip4
V1: clip1 | slug | clip3
Primary: audio clip2 audio on here audio on here audio on here

Thus removing some of my audio.

Anyway, not to worry, it’s not something that bothers me that much as I can lift the clip out and put it back in, plus I think I am going to try and use the primary with a slug as i have asked about in another post.

Thanks Tom. I tried this but it didn’t quite work. If the primary track is called A0/V0 for example then I have video in V1. I used your shortcuts to raise it up fine, shortened the clip then used the short cuts to put it back but it put it back to A0/V0 placing it over my audio which is there, rather than back in V1.

Will it always replace it to A0/V0? I suppose not a big deal as I can use the mouse, but us there are way to make it return to whence it came?

From looking at tutorials it appears that retime always changes the length of the clip. FCP7 used to do that then at the end the changed it so we could hold the length of the clip but change the speed. Is this at all possible? Is this an oft requested feature and likely to happen?

Actually (and sorry for keeping coming back) the value of the scrubber in the thumbnails bit makes sense to me but it really annoys me in the timeline – I can see how it works, as in click play and it vanishes so you can jump around by clicking, but then stop and it reappears after a sec – but the value of it to me feels far less than the annoyance.

So, is there a way to simply disable the scrubber when on the timeline and have it always on on the thumbnails?

if not, that would be a great feature as it means no need to hit S when swapping between the two and both areas function as each individual wants.

In case someone else comes by because of the question, now this isn’t perfect but I have accidently discovered if you click on the thumbnail bit and hold a sec then scrub let and right it starts and widens/narrows the yellow border for the in out points, so as a rough and ready work around it does allow scrubbing through clicking a little. doesn’t appear to work if you click inside an in/out section (yellow border). I guess it is a start 🙂

Sorry, in addition is there a way to turn the audio on so when i scrub through the clips in my bins I can hear the audio too, even if it is as the same speed as my scrubbing, or is it always mute?

Don’t think so. When I export the timeline the SC quicktime file is the correct colour balance. I can place it on the same monitor next to my canvas and the difference is there. It appears to be something internal to FCP7 that has suddenly altered after the upgrades.
