Think of it this way, when you turn on collapse transformations, the layers in your precomp act as if they are in your parent comp. If you are familiar with Photoshop, the precomp would act as a Layer Group.

So you wouldn’t want to move around the position of the precomp, you would want to move around the position of the layers INSIDE the precomp.

If you’ve ever used the shatter effect or a particle plugin, you know that the layer with the effect applied to it doesn’t move, since it only changes the area in which the effect is visible, not where the element is in 3D space (does that make sense?).

Since you are nesting a bunch of precomps, all the precomps with collapse transformations applied should be 2D or else you will get undesirable results. So on your furthest nested precomp where your actual elements reside is where you should be moving them.

If you have made changes to your camera in the main comp, you can cut/paste your layer(s) from the bottom precomp into the main, make all the position adjustments, then cut/paste it back into the nested precomp. Or you could always use an alternate camera view in the nested comp… it really depends on your project.

Make sure your precomp that has collapse transformations turned on is not a 3D layer.

  • Question 1: Are you using Encore CS3?

Question 2: Are you using a Mac?

If your answer is yes to both of those, then there are many others who have experienced the same problem. Often times adobe fixes bugs and implements them into newer versions, leaving older versions broken. Just make sure you install all available updates for Encore.

[Than Baardson] “I’ve linked and avi to the background of the menu and tried importing it as an AE comp”

How are you setting as the background? Are you Going to the motion tab of the menu and setting the video and audio asset to that of the avi or dynamic linked composition?

Also if your system is really slow or the avi is extremely large, it may not be able to update the motion background in the preview. Have you tried rendering motion menus and see if that works?

I’m curious how that menu ends up in people’s projects. Did you ever import it into the project for any reason? Is it set as your default menu from the library?

June 30, 2009 at 3:23 am in reply to: Audio/Video Synch Problems + Much Much More

[Cuitla Huezo] “The source file is an AVCHD file (720p, 1280x720x12, 23.976 fps, 48,000 Hz stereo audio). I use the comp settings for HDC/HDTV 720 25 on full resolution.”

Instead of manually setting the comp settings, try letting After Effects create the comp for you by dragging the source clip into the “Create a New Composition” icon at the bottom of the project window. See if that fixes it for you, since you appear to have set your comp settings incorrectly.

You might also need to right click on the clip, go to interpret footage, and make sure all those settings match your footage (interlacing, etc.).

How about some more information about your authoring setup:

Are you creating a single or dual layer disc?

    How big is your project?

What is your menu structure? Do you have a main menu, scene selection menu, etc.?

Have you set any menu user operations?

Please give as much detail as possible… maybe something will stand out to one of us as being a potential problem.

It’s also possible that it would work fine in Encore CS4, as Adobe often fixes bugs and integrates it into newer releases without releasing a fix for older versions.

As I mentioned in my first response to your post, you should try the Quicktime Export using the Animation codec (set to 100% quality) and see if it has the same result. If it does, you know it has nothing to do with the source file, but with how Encore is encoding to mpeg2.

If the quicktime file does not resolve the issue, I would try encoding to mpeg2 outside of Encore using the Adobe Media Encoder so that Encore doesn’t have to do any transcoding.

If that fixes the problem, then I would double check your transcode settings in Encore… in fact you might want to do that now before doing anything else.

What codec did you use for the AVI file?

Remember, avi is not a codec, its just a container.
