I don’t think we should assume full compatibility with FCP 5.1 until someone has actually tried it. For a long time, Focus did not support QuickTime forcing FCP users to convert the data from Win AVI format to QuickTime in order to use in the FCP timeline. Now, you can choose the your record format from a menu setting on the recorder. Usually the format is AVI if you’re a PC user with Premeire or QuickTime if you’re Mac user with FCP. But they also support OMF, MXF, and now even the P2 format.

Would it work to recapture the HD material from the Component outs of the deck to an AJA or Blackmagic card?

    Justin…

When you upgraded to the G5, did you by any chance transfer data from another Mac via the Apple FireWire ‘target disk mode’ (where you connect one machine to another with a firewire cable)? Just wondering…

I have upgraded 3 different G5’s in the last year using the target disk mode, and all ended up with applications performing very strangely. Reinstalling a clean system AND reinstalling all apps solved the problems. One of the machines had your exact problem where FCP would do very strange things in the timeline.

Ok.. so if everyone agrees that SDI is clearly better quality, then am I correct in assuming that the Sony DSR-1500 with an SDI card and a low-end AJA Kona LS is the cheapest way to get 10-bit uncompressed to my Mac?

Also.. Does the AJA ‘Io LD’ box allow me to monitor Motion and DVD Studios Pro projects on an external monitor? All the literature I have read refers only to FCP.

    Thanks much for the info.

Thanks for the comments. One question, you said “great thing about fcp is the ability to gang a guide offline video and the online recaptured version. You can check every single frame is correct.”

What do you mean by ‘gang a guide’?
