this is good feedback for the gang at BorisFx. FWIW the poll on my blog is running 75% dont change and 10% change – rest unsure
and in researching the story i have found an amazing resilience in the brand and the mac development team that i may have taken for granted.

jack, i also get that blank and sometimes incredulous stare of “you cut on what?” when i say media 100 like i am still on vers 2.6 🙂 with a quadra

anyway the name change thing is expensive but to me there is one point here worth noting (but not pushing) –
it is probably easier to quantify the cost of a name change. you ring 4 companies and work out a ‘spend’ cost. then add up the cost of
a mailout to existing users and you’re most of the way there.

but how do you work out the cost of lost revenue from people who dont like avid, find fcp a long learning curve but feel m100 is tainted?

i guess the golden question is – which feature would warrant a name change?

i must say though when all is said and done, al’s post made me laugh and the response of 500 hits in 8 hours was pretty interesting too.

    beam me up

thanks for the support and feedback.
yes i know in the enthusiasm to get it done and up there are a few typos. and the interesting thing of course is that
the name media 100 came before google -so you cant blame for that problem

with some official support and interviews, i am going to flesh out the story
correct the inaccuracies and hopefully publish it online as an illustrated online book
    so stay tuned

    hey michael
i am going to update the blog in future as an on going concern, to fill it with more facts and with some extra elbow grease i am planning an electronic book. about 450 people have dropped by to read the proposition in the first few hours so i hope it gets people thinking
and even emailing media 100 🙂

so i think tankboy, that a comprehensive and forthright response like the one above from dave c.
within hours of your post, speaks volumes for what has happened and what is happening at media100.

of course we are all cautious about spending money again after the 844 debacle and the rotting of the Mac
product line so i can only offer up my belief that Boris Y is serious about making the m100 unit work but not
at the expense of the users.

to me its like the Mac Business Unit at Microsoft. Well managed and well run with
competent software releases it is MS’s most proftable unit. They make what users want
    and are rewarded.

make sure you post any bugs or ideas you have for the future releases. they are listening!

i have just cut a commercial in a hotel in a far away land!
using an old aluminium G4 powerbook. and had not one hiccup in 4 days.

    smooth as silk for offlining

i had a new D2 250GB Firewire 800 drive cutting at DV resolution, digitised and played thru
a sonyy DSR11 deck and a pair of steroe self powered audio monitors.

i think the only trick is at least 1gb RAM but save your cash if this is what you intend doing

oh c’mon michael dont be a killjoy

if the guy’s happy about vers 11.5 let him be. sure there have been shortcomings
over time but – stop – deep – breath
M100is back and trying hard to listen to users. they are listening to problems,
complaints and encouragement. bug fixes. feature demands

and as they say – you catch more flies with honey not vinegar

If you have “lost” your entire FW connection between the Mac and the device, go HERE:

the good news is that M100 software and hardware is HD savvy already,
the other good news is that if you are working in SD then there are many many cheap and reliable options for
    hard drive storage.
the bad news is that HD chews thru hard drives and you will need to research all your options
if you go down that road.

not meaning to be a killjoy but HD is another ball-game

it is highly unlike the new Apple to let 3rd parties have machines pre-release. And with P.R. the devil is in the details!

altho AJA announced support it was actually UB not for the MacPro’s. I believe that they, like M100, are working toward that

“New v3 software will be available by the end of the month adding Mac Pro support to this popular line.
