i can definitely see the upside to not having keyframes – then if i wanted something to wiggle while moving across the frame i could do it without nesting sequences.

Updated: after controlling wiggle with a few expressions, the Wiggler decided to start erratically working again. I’m really stumped as to why it works sometimes and not others. The glitch seems to be that it will write the keyframes but not alter the attribute. To be fair, expressions do the same job, but I personally find it disruptive to have to mentally shift into writing javascript while working visually/creatively. As I get more comfortable with expressions, I suppose that will change. Hope this helps anyone else who is experiencing a similar problem =)

i’m just getting started with writing expressions, and have luckily have been able to get some basic wiggle action to happen, in basic properties and in the “blurriness” effect i was trying to randomize. took me a minute to sort out how noise (jagged or smooth) is expressed in the javascript. apparently more “octaves” means more “jagged.” kinda threw me off that they call it different things in different places, and don’t seem to reference the two together anywhere in the documentation. i found part of the explanation here:

Thanks, Dave. I’ll check these out! I’m looking forward to the day when technical hitches like this stop interrupting my creativity!!

thanks anyway, dave. sometimes it is just the basic stuff (umm, is the power on??) and a sense-check is just what you need.

i’m trying to sort it out now with expressions, but that’s not a feature i’ve used alot so its slow going. if anyone has any tips on that, i’d be grateful.

I’m trying to use it on position, scale and a blur effect – all of which I’ve done before, but for some reason today none of them work! When I scrub ahead to the keyframes Wiggler has created, i can see that the value of the property is unchanged. I sure hate it when things don’t work as advertised…

i used mpeg streamclip, usually very stable for such things.

For these projects, unfortunately, I had no choice but to work with source material that was already heavily compressed. I tried rendering one of the audio tracks to .wav, but got only static for output. So I rendered the same audio track to AAC and it worked fine.

The frustrating part is that I can preview the originals in the project bin, and the waveform is fine. Its only when they go to timeline that they have problems. Would a difference in sampling rate or bitrate cause the problem, or is it purely a codec issue?

audio codec was mp3. i re-encoded to AAC and it seems to be working. thanks for the tip!

it was driving me nuts because it worked perfectly well in AE2.
