  • I feel like I read somewhere that only one of AE’s two types of markers transfer over. I feel like it was comp markers only instead of layer markers. Whichever one you’re using, I’d try the other.

    Honestly, I think they just made a couple of grunge textures in photoshop and repeated it over the footage. It looks like about 3-10 frames of grunge. I’d just use a couple of Photoshop brushes.

    But you can also get real grain as Walter suggested!

    If you’re trimming paths on a circle, sometimes you get lines like that. Not sure if that’s what’s going on here, but if it is, it’s an odd bug that’s hard to reproduce but if you change the value at that time just slightly, like .01% completion it won’t draw a line across.

    You can, but only with one color fringe. For example you can try this:

    1. Apply Effect > Channel > Shift Channels
    2. Set Take Green From and Take Blue From to “Full Off”
    3. Add Effect > Distort > Transform and shift the image around using position
    4. Add Effect > Channel > CC Composite and set it to screen
    5 Add another Transform effect and shift the image back so it mostly fills the screen

    That’ll leave you with a red fringe. While it’s not exactly the same as shifting the three channels, it has a unique look.

    You can also add an expression to the second Transform’s position like this:

    pos = effect("Transform")("Position");
    x = pos[0] - 1830;
    y = pos[1] - 2442;
    [value[0]-x,value[1]-y];

    Reset the first Transform in the stack and change 1830 and 2442 to the original x and y position of the first Transform. That way when you move the first transform around, only the fringe layer shifts around. I hope that helps. I feel like there’s got to be a way to get all three to fringe, but I can’t figure it out.

    I was on vacation, so hopefully you figured it out. If not, I’d say you just need to take your pins for the hands and put them in position and put the feet on the proper position. Then move them until the character is on the next step. Then I’d precomp her if I want her to just climb the ladder off screen. If you want her to keep climbing forever, I’d precomp her and the ladder and move the whole comp down as she goes up so she stays in the middle of the screen.

    Sorry if that’s vague too. I don’t really know what you’re getting hung up on. I’d definitely look for reference material. IIRC, when people climb ladders they go up using the opposite hands and feet.

    This should be a decent reference. 🙂

    Also, no worries! I’m sorry I couldn’t get back to you sooner. I was on vacation, and I didn’t have a lot of time to check back! And the only internet I had was through my phone. :/
