Are you using gradient adjustment layers in your menu file? If so, have you tried rasterizing them into your menu?

What you are looking for is a “button-over-timeline” type of functionality. Encore doesn’t offer that- sorry.
What you could do is include a written instruction in the timeline to “To Return, Press the Menu Button on Your DVD Player Remote Control”. This could either be done in pre-production (superimposed over your graphic in an NLE) or as a forced subtitle in the Encore timeline.

Also note that if you have the Suite, you can use Dynamic Link to import an AE comp with your HD footage, and then Encore can automatically transcode this to DVD-legal video at the build stage. But in this case you would be working with AE comps in Encore, not exported video clips.

What color set are you using in Encore? If it’s Automatic and you haven’t created the subpicture layers (with consistent hightlight colors) in Photoshop, then it’s likely the highlight colors are the same as the text colors. Try changing the color set in Encore and see if that solves your problem. Menu Default is a good one, as long as your text isn’t the same shade of orange.

That is correct- and also, the DVD-Video specification does not support HD-sized video frames- it must be 720×480 for NTSC.
Export your HD footage from AE as 16:9 720×480 MPEG-2 for DVD, and use 16:9 menus in Encore.

“Good quality” is a subjective judgement.
I can tell you that with 2hrs 27min of video, your bit rate will need to be about 3.9 MBps or less, which in many cases might provide good quality, but it won’t be the best looking image. But it may do for you. Try importing an AVI and use Encore’s automatic bit rate setting (you won’t have to select it, Encore will apply it automatically).

Encore to After Effects is PSD (menu)-only.
After Effects to Encore is AE comp-only…and from there, you can return to AE to edit the comp and it updates in Encore.

My problem is the moving background in Encore isn’t transfering into After Effects It’s transfering as a psd File, which doesn’t move.
The workflow for dynamic link between Encore and After Effects is:
1. Export your static menu from Encore to AE, which opens it as a layered comp that you can animate the layers in, which you then either export a clip that you import back into Encore (or, more below, import the comp itself)
and/or
2. Import a comp with animation from AE, make it a menu background, then return to AE as needed to tweak the comp.
There’s no provision for bouncing an existing video clip from Encore into AE.
There should be a TotalTraining DVD tutorial for this in your Encore box which explains the workflow more completely. Also check the online help and Adobe’s web site for more info.
