Yes, but there need not be anything there except button layers and highlight layers. Everything else could be video from AE.

If you intend to build the entire menu in AE, you’ll need to export a Photoshop file for use in Encore – all Encore menus are PSD files.
As for your second question, extend the duration of your comp in AE so there’s at least 10 to 15 sec (or more) of footage after your buttons appear. The looping is done in Encore, using the Loop and Loop Point properties of the menu.

Have you tried going to Dell and downloading the latest firmware update for the burner?

Encore CS3 does not support burning to dual-layer (50 GB) Blu-ray discs.
Encore CS4 does support this.

If your footage is 16:9, then the subtitles will appear over the video on a 16:9 monitor. Are you playing the DVD player back on a 4:3 monitor? If so, what are the player settings for aspect ratio?

Have you tried unchecking Animate Buttons, and see if you still get the error?
