I see the HP LTFS implementation isn’t officially supported for anything beyond Snow Leopard, and only in 32-bit mode. Is this something you can work around?

Also, how about IBM drives? IBM provides LTFS for MacOS at least up to Lion in 64-bit, probably also Mountain Lions, I’d guess. Has anyone used their implementation?

We’ve been using mostly RedLogFilm for grading stuff that’s going out to film (and being graded through a film positive emulation LUT). When it comes to stuff that’s going mainly to DCP, ACES seems to be very promising, although it’s a bit beta still.

For what it’s worth, the Teranex does some signal generation stuff. Not sure exactly what, but I briefly talked to someone from BMD at NAB about it. I’m pretty sure it does color bars, at least.

Peter, will there be a new, updated Linux install DVD for us Linux users? Will this use a newer version of CentOS than the CentOS 5.4 we got with Resolve 8? This would be useful to know to see if we update or reinstall.

That’s a very good controller, so you’re covered there. I think part of the question is, how much speed do you need? Uncompressed HD is less than 200 MB/sec, typical 2k is less than 300MB/sec per stream. That controller with 6 drives should give you around 500-600 MB/sec with 6 drives in RAID5, which is enough for most work.

Going up to 8 drives might give you another 200MB/sec extra max, but do you need it? Also, I’d do RAID6 if I went above 8 drives, but with 8 RAID5 is probably ok, provided you make sure your ventilation is adequate.

A lot would depend on your RAID controller.

I’m guessing, but it might be that what Flame supports is the Apple uncompressed RGB codec, which (I think) is only 8-bit, while “Uncompressed RGB 10 bits” in Resolve probably is BlackMagic’s RGB codec.

This sounds like an enormously complicated way of solving this “problem”. The database server has nothing to do with it, this is a question of mountpoints, and as other have pointed out, it’s really easy to adjust those.

That Resolve could potentially map directory names would be possible, but that’s totally independent of the database server anyway.

I’d recommend setting up your mountpoints so the paths are identical on both machines. Both Linux and Mac OS (like all Unix derivatives) actually allow you to mount stuff where you want, using /mnt on Linux and /Volumes on Mac OS are just conventions. So you can make the paths match on both machines. This will make things smoother for other software too, not just Resolve.

  • Is the Magma really shipping now? Their website just says “Preorder now” like it has for ages… I thought the Sonnet had been shipping for a while, though.
